Yeah if the next game has spirit summons I'll just skip
Midra is honestly a spectacle, and his fair telegraphs make him seem like a classic souls boss

But trying to learn him solo just makes health flasks pointless, either I dodge two or three combos to heal and keep learning, or I try to outright no-hit the boss

Since the game has buffs for the Mimic included in the DLC I might as well use it, and that way yeah the difficulty goes down to Dark Souls levels, but the satisfaction of basically roflstomping Midra because there's two of me is just not there, instead I could be banging my head in Frenzy and maybe in 2 hours feel accomplished.

Divine Dancing Lion felt kinda ass since the camera was his 4th element, but man that fight at least felt like an old boss where healing wasn't outright pointless.

Maybe Midra was supposed to be the "Orphan of Kos" of this game? But the Spirit Summons just dunk that idea to the ground.

To be fair, when I fought against Malenia phase 2, I was under the impression flasks are nearly useless because I die before I get to heal. And by the time I manage to know when it is safe to heal, I became good enough to actually finish her off nearly without healing :|

This is kinda why I hate the "difficulty slider" argument people use.

Am I making the game harder for myself by not using spirit ashes? For sure, but do I want the game to be SUBSTANTIALLY, like seriously easier? No, of course ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ not, the game would be even less fun to me then, even if without spirit ashes I do feel frustrated at times.

If there was a middle ground between "you are going to get your balls torn off and fed to you" and "you can look away from your screen for half of the boss fight", I would totally stick with that, because I care more about having fun in souls games than them being SUPER HARD AND ME BEATING THEM LEGIT RAGGGH

But there isn't, there isn't a middle ground. I get ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ curb stomped just playing normally with a zweihander, and I feel like I'm playing kirby the second I whip out summons or spirit ashes.

People acting like mimic tear is the only summon, and/or they all magically start at +10.

Well they all pull aggro from you, which will always make bosses significantly easier no matter what the summon actually does, and this discussion is talking about the DLC so you really should have them at max level by that point.

keep trying, he has many more openings than you think
madness is a bit annoying but if you hug him close you wont really have to worry about it even without any mitigation

but you do you, summoning is in the game for a reason, but i find there are many other bosses that deserve it over him

Midra is probably the boss that gives you the biggest openings out of any of the DLC bosses.
He has a very telegraphed moveset that is actually fun to learn and he is very satisfying to parry.

Even if Mimic was removed, I could use Luthel for passive stance breaks without the game scaling stance by +40% like online

Or I could use Tiche for a constant HP drain effect

Or I could use Dung Eater to give me a damage boost while being a less customizable Mimic

At this point my Mimic tear isn't even a top tier summon anymore lol

♥♥♥♥! My eyes rolled so hard they fell out. Now there's dust and cat hair all over them.

Hit openings yeah, he felt super active
But healing openings were tied to UGS moveset openings

Also I feel like double chugging is by design not a thing in the DLC, there's rare openings for an honest full heal now.

If y'all want a middle ground, why not use one of the weirder summons that aren't wildly overused like Mimic, Dung Eater, Tiche, etc. Get some quality time with your wolf buddies, hang out with the fingercreeper bebes, try out the spider scorpion, and so on. There are a ton of options no one seems to use.

is this a joke? midra is like the chillest boss in the dlc

Like Malenia, he seems to vary with your build a lot. I basically roflstomped him with a Giant Hunt-centric build.

idk dude, double chugged all fights cause i didnt have my flasks maxed out on the dlc character
Dam Stark Jul 7, 2024 @ 11:16am
Midra has ample punish times what are you talking about? Just don't use the baby summons my dude. You cant heal whenever you want you have to wait for the same opening. Spam heal during the first animation to double chug. If thats too hard maybe get the talisman that increases healing on the dlc

Colossal sword playstyle is less forgiving on timings but it pays off with stun damage. If you want a faster back and forth use a faster weapon.

I will say, as someone using a UGS, his openings felt pretty lenient. I had tons of openings for fully charged heavies or 2 r1's which is always more than enough for double chugs if you need them.
