Messmer is unbeatable
I've been doing co-op for a week and getting summoned to help against bosses.
I have never seen Messmer defeated. I try to enter the arena as prepared as possible, especially from a survival point of view, but I feel ineffective.
Even holding the shield with the highest fire resistance and related talismans, I take a lot of damage even while remaining on block.
Does anyone have any ideas with a dex build to get into Messmer and have good survivability and offense?

I have seen him defeated many times. Heavy shielld+cold infused spear for poking+shield sorcery should make it a bit easier.

There is 300.000 people ingame. The chance that you get summoned by someone for the first fight against messmer is VERY high. It was even worse earlier, summoning for renalla shortly after release was a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. :steamlaughcry:

I have an arcane build that has a bit of dex and I just focused on stacking poison/bleed and then connecting with poison blooms twice ash of war for the big burst damage.

As a true dex build it will be harder cus you'll have to chip away his hp bit by bit so you'll need to learn his moveset and master it. Consider using a fast weapon to inflict frostbite and then swap to a weapon with high stagger potential. Can alternatively go turtle mode and post up with a big shield, buff it with grease/spell, use something like Bloody Helice so you can poke while guarding and the fight just becomes a slow pace war of attrition. Edit: don't forget to put the Vow of Indomitable on the shield so you can be immune to all damage for 30ish frames as long as you don't move. So use that combined with guard counters.

Scadutree Blessing level is entirely dependent on the host. So it kind of doesn't matter how well prepared you are, if they host who summoned you in did not explore enough, he won't have found sufficient Scadutree Fragments which in returns means that both of you will only be able to chip away at him while taking lots of damage at the same time.

I defeated him in one go, just summoning Hornsent and using Jolan and Anna. Went easy and smooth, i barely used two flasks charge.

The first phase of the fight does feel kind of cheap. I had to swap my build around considerably just to survive the onslaught. Killed it the next attempt after increasing my defenses.

People summon because they don't know how to fight. So they die extremely easily and have poor skills. My assist win rate is maybe 5%, and I almost never die before the host.

Use bleed hes super weak to bleed
Messmer is one of the easier fights

Trust me, it gets worse. Get those scooby doo fragments.

Honestly he is easier solo. Most of this attacks have a wide arc, so he can hit multiple enemies and becomes less predictable in multiplayer. You can't tell he is targeting you until it is too late. I tried helping other people too but I've had much easier time solo than with other players.

After beating him, my only complaint is that he randomly gets damage through my shield.

When he uses the thousand snakes move, I can fully block the slamming snake heads, but at random one or two of them somehow damages me through the shield, possible small AoE impact?

I was 10/7 blessing when i fought him, i used a bleed build with Bloodhound's Fang. I also summoned the Hornsent in the fight cause i wanted to do his quest. Summoning him in the arena as part of his questline does not increase the boss health, actually. Took me 5 tries to beat Messmer.
I think I also had Flamedrake Talisman +3, you can get it from Fort Reprimand in the DLC.
