Dmg Negation not adding up
Anyone else notice how the damage negation from armors is no longer adding up at all?

Physical Dmg Negation
Black Knife Hood 3.8
Black Knife Chest 11.4
Fire Prelate Gauntlets 4.9
Fire Prelate Greaves 11.1
Should add up to 31.2, but what I actually get is 20.735. That is a significant drop in negation. Not even adding the dmg negation talismans add up properly to what their alleged boosts "should" be.
When did this happen, is it a new feature or a bug? Finding any information on it is very hard and it seems to be a thing that no one talks about yet I know I am not the only one experiencing this. And reporting bugs for this game to the devs is not a straightforward process.

Are you wearing gear the reduces your damage negation, like Scorpion Charms, Scarab Heads, etc.?

That's not at all what Op was asking about.

Are they tailored? Most of the alterations made with the tailor kit drop damage negation.

its not 11.1+4.9+11.4+3.8=negation as that would just end up making you immune to dmg there is likely a vid on youtube how to calc it

Check it yourself if ya dont believe me... And sure, did forget that I was using a Scorpion charm*facepalm*, but it still does not add up properly. 27.941 instead of 31.2. And it used to add up to that before the DLC dropped.
As I said, check for yourself if you dont believe it.
On another character wearing the full Solitude set only adds up to 35ish when it should be higher given the values on the pieces. I clearly remember the values used to add up, so it is a change, either an intended "shadow nerf" or a bug.

Damage negation is multiplicative, not additive - otherwise it would be easy to reach 100 DR in ALL damage types.

As per your example:

Black Knife Hood 3.8
Black Knife Chest 11.4
Fire Prelate Gauntlets 4.9
Fire Prelate Greaves 11.1

Let us assume 0 DR at base, which counts as 100% damage taken. 100% = 1.0

It is calculated as follows:

1 x 0.962 x 0.886 x 0.951 x 0.889

Which comes to 0.7205947... -- leaving you with a DR of 27.9405...

Was it simply adding up?
From what I remember they had always some weird calculations. I also haven’t noticed taking more damage.

What's important to know is that the damage reduction values aren't "reduced" due to the calculation.

When you have 27.9405 damage reduction, and you use a 20% Damage Reduction buff; you still receive a full 20% damage reduction - this would raise you to 33.53 Damage Reduction.

This is barely over 5% total damage reduction on paper, whereas if you were naked with 0 DR and cast the spell it would give you a full 20% total damage reduction.

The MISTAKE that people make is in thinking that stacking these damage reduction bonuses makes them less effective, but it DOES NOT.

Let's imagine I cast a 50% damage reduction spell at 0 DR and at 50 DR. My DR will increase by 50% of its current value, so regardless of whether the buff gives me 50 DR or 25 DR, it will always increase the number of hits required to kill me by double compared to my DR prior to casting. In other words, the direct impact of the spell on my survivability is exactly the same in every instance.
