Commander gaius is the first boss that genuinely makes me question it's designers.
Out of all the bosses in the game that I've seen, this one pi$$es me of the most.

Giant arena that makes it look like you're gonna have a mounted jousting fight, can't summon torrent.
No fog door when you first get there so you walk right into a bossfight completely unprepared.
He moves fast enough to always be in your face so you can only build distance when he feels like letting you.
The only time there's a pause in his attacks he moves out of range of your hits.
Attacks that are also dodges because they move his hitbox out of reach.
Attacks with hitboxes that linger so damn long they are still there by the time your iframes from your roll ends.
Attacks fast enough that taking a swing at him almost always results in getting hit, and if you do manage to keep up you're gonna run out of stamina.

This just has everything that makes a fight un-fun. Difficulty done in the worst way possible.

im on ng+1 and just spammed lions claw with blood giant crusher. then again that is how i beat every boss lol.

Bonked him with a sunflower, my only death was attempting to use Torrent ♥♥♥♥♥. Err, to which I'd say I do agree about the hyper aggression and the complaints. Bosses mostly start to feel the same because of this standard "Every enemy is a combat genius" approach that some designer is taking.

Other than winning the "most unoriginal comment of the year" award, I do have some context.
I defeated Malenia, and I can handle everything she does except waterfowl, which still gets me occasionally.
That fight feels FAIR compared to Gaius.

The boss is designed around summons and coop being mandatory in order to defeat him much easier than solo. Someone has to tank him, while the others shoot all the ranged stuff they got on him while he is distracted

The walking in without knowing is a souls genre special. If you ever see a giant open area with a gate, 9.9/10 it's a boss fight.

Hes pretty simple. I just fought him near the fog, using the left corner of the building wall. Using Malikeths black blade and Destined death skill I was able to hit him through the wall. Once he rounds the corner, walk/dodge back to the other side.

You don't want to use torrent, that's a complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. But yes it is a garbage boss, even has janky double damage sometimes from the charge or kick.

the only issue with gaius is his charge. all his other attacks are incredibly telegraphed, he is one of the fun fights in the dlc imo

He's just like the other two mounted bosses in the base game. It ain't that complicated, he just has a few gravity moves.

he's not even a hard fight but istg sometimes the same attack that does 20% of my hp does 80%, same phase

I had decent success calling my Putrid Corpse ashes to take all his aggro, while I nuked with my Giant's Flame Take Thee. Red-Branch glass cannon was hitting him for almost 5k fully charged. If I got into trouble, I made sure to keep enough FP to use Vow of the Indomitable ash that i slapped on a light shield. It took a lot of tries, because my reflexes are trash against some of these hyper-aggressive combos and bloated lingering hitboxes, but he's really not too awful once you get into a rhythm of baiting his stupid invincible charge and hitting him in the back. I think the only actually troublesome attack he has is the flying stomp with the rings of gravity stones that linger for just barely too long that you can't dodge closer to avoid them with any reliability.

almost every single boss arena in elden ring has a fog gate, I can count on one hand the arenas that don't.
And this one is particularily nefarious because the size of the arena is partially hidden from view until you are in the doorway, and it's the 3rd time in the DLC you've walked though a doorway that gives you a great panorama view of the scadutree across a large open landscape.
But unlike those other times this one is booby trapped.

When you have to resort to bugs/exploits to kill a boss the game is doing something wrong.
