Developing a game in 2024 and not adding ultrawide support is "inappropriate behavior"

I don't have an ultrawide, but I know people who do. Surely it's not a hard thing to do to add support? It's not like ultrawides are super rare, right?

Not only is it not hard, but they actually put in extra effort to mask out the sides of ultrawide screens. The game actually renders it but covers it with black overlays. So your performance is slightly lower for no reason.

It's the worst of both worlds.

The game already renders in ultrawide. When you first start playing, often times the game will play in UW with the UI properly fitted, but eventually it will add in black bars and move the UI in. It's easy enough to get the game to run properly in UW, from doing a simple hex edit or using a mod or using a program like flawless ultrawide, but you have to play offline because From won't allow it.

The only other game I know of that doesn't allow players to enjoy the extra immersion and benefits of ultrawide is Valorant. And there it's still stupid because other competitive shooters (counter-strike, siege, overwatch, apex, etc. etc.) all let you play in UW.

I have a 1600p screen and have black bars on the top and bottom if I play on that resolution. I have to play in 1440p with a vertically stretched image; it's the only way to get rid of the bars. And, for some, reason, I always get screen tearing whenever I boot up the game. Changing the resolution and then changing it back fixes the issue, but ER is the only game that does it.

But FromSoft still gets a pass in 2024 because it's FromSoft. 10/10.
