What is the best starting character

I have played samurai and astrologer but i havent tried any others, anyone recommend the best starting classes?

Some will say it's Wretch because of it's even stat distribution. That said, having a build in mind prior to choosing your starting class helps, as you'll be able to specialize better during late game compared to Wretch, even if it's just a few stat points in difference.

I concur with wretch. It also helps with cooperating of PvP since you start with level 10 in everything but at rune level 1. Thus once you reach, say, level 100 you'll have more levels than another class at level 100, if that makes any sense.

Starting class doesn't really matter outside of optimization for pvp builds. My personal favourite is Vagabond because it starts with a really nice stat spread for melee characters while also allowing you to add some faith or int pretty efficiently, but from a casual lens, samurai is probably the best, due to starting with a good weapon that has an even better ash of war.

I'd say vagabond is the best overall. Good starting vigor, end, str, and dex. This makes it a great starting class for quality builds. Making it a faith or int hybrid isn't too much of a sacrifice either, as it got a solid amount of points into those stats.

This is wrong. Every class has the same amount of total stat points on a given character level, only the starting distribution and starting character level is different.

Wretch is the worst class since it will always have wasted points, no matter your build. E.g. you don't care for INT, but it has 10 INT while other classes have 7 so that's 3 wasted levels right there.

Samurai is definitely recommended for a beginner. Very good gear, solid stat spread. And it's the only way to acquire TWO Uchigatanas (which, if powerstanced provide some of the highest DPS in the game).

It doesn't remotely matter. Just choose one that gets you closest to your weapon of choice's minimum reqs.

For a total newbie the knight is a good choice, with its good armour, shield, and high hp. But outside of first timers it doesn't matter, unless you're trying to min/max a pvp build.

wretch. if you are just playing game, doing it all, you may eventually get very bored by certain playstyle and will want to respec to do something else. then wretch is the best.

personally, i like them all, but if i would play once and everything, only wretch.

playing a new game for the first time, i also go wretch and no starting gift. it's more fun to play around found items
