Elden Ring and From Software's Soul's Like are overrated
Why does From Software continue to sell very similar games but with the same bugs and glitches?

I bought this game at D1 on the Xbox Series X.
The problem, however, is that nothing changes from the other Soul's Likes already played.

It feels like you're playing a normal Dark Souls but with different skins.

Up until halfway through the game it can even be fun, but after that you start to find the artificial difficulty too oppressive and unfair, rather than having a challenge you are punished even for the mere fact of playing this type of game.

Not to mention the classic wall glitch, enemies randomly hitting you through walls, a problem that has existed for a decade now.

What the hell do they do, copy and paste their games and commit to just making a confusing plot on purpose?

I'm not saying that these things are a fact, but it's my impression

They kinda copy and paste since moveset swap still exists.

Oh no, I won't get any prizes, what a shame.
What will become of my life now. However, the fact remains that From Software games don't deserve the success they have for the reasons I mentioned above. For Steam rewards you can also keep them all, my goal is another

Throw an anime waifu or two and you have all the redditors on their knees buying $100 crap and calling it GOTY.
Fact.
And release a DLC at full price lol

You know.....this actually shows a lot of social etiquette and decency. Usually this type of thread is full of colorful language and other grotesque things......thanks for a decent hot-take thread, OP.

Why they copy paste a working formula and improve it a bit time after time? They are trying to relase good new entries in the Souls franchise not re-discover the wheel or hot water......
Nothing bad with some innovation from time to time but quality over weird experiments always.

Whoa.....i know i mucked up the post edition but it looks so AWESOME in blue. Im not going to correct it.

Yea i also dont get all the praise for Dark Souls, any of them, or Elden Ring.
There are much better games then these that never got recognition like Nioh 1 and 2, to me Nioh series is much much better then any Dark Souls game. And ofc Sekiro and Bloodborne. To me Elden Ring is not even in top 3 Souls games yes people consider it the best for some strange reason when this game is just like any DS game just with better graphic and open world, there is nothing in gameplay department that make it stand our from Dark Souls games.

Usually when I see a topic formatted in this way, I expect a page long biligerent rant...thanks for surprising me, TC.

This judgment is predicated on the idea that GOTY winners should be doing something new or innovative in order to qualify for the award. Outside of indies (and even then, only rarely) you're not going to see much of this.

GOTY, like most awards, is largely political (and not in the Repub/Dem sense); it's more a matter of who has your back than what you actually accomplished, and in that sense it is functionally meaningless. In the sense of "whether or not a game I enjoy winning an award has any impact on my enjoyment of that game," it is *absolutely* meaningless, and making any kind of deal out of which game won which award suggests only a need for approval of things you enjoy--which is, I gotta say, a little sad.

Beyond that, you're not wrong in that most Souls games are just reskins of what came before, but many people enjoy what is familiar; this is the root of the aphorism "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." This tendency toward what is comfortable/familiar is what informs, for instance, why I don't enjoy any of the Final Fantasy games after IX. I grew up with the first one, and the series peaked for me at VI--but that is just preference, which is inherently subjective, speaking. People who love the newer games are not objectively wrong--their tastes just do not align with mine.

Same concept applies here.

TL;DR: Arguing preference as if it is somehow predicated on an objective set of standards is always going to come across as performative pedantry.

Look, I love Team Ninja games, their combat is far more engaging and complex than Souls, but literally everything else is mid at best. Level design, exploration, story/lore, even minor things like armor and boss designs are all bad to just okay. No one is going to tell you how they stumbled upon this one awesome place in Nioh 2, because all the missions are self-contained copypasted levels and the loot is randomly generated. It's literally just a combat simulator, and it's great at what it does, but you're just being dense on purpose if you can't see why FromSoft games are much better received.
