just to add my two cents. i believe octopuses expects that to be the case, given the fact that he is asking about coop, which objectively makes the game easier.
BUT.. didn't they make it so the difficulty scales with the amount of players in the session? i'm almost sure to have read this somewhere
This ensures you only summon or are summoned by people who have the password, but it won't achieve the end (end-to-end co-op) that OP is looking for. ER gates multiplayer to specific overworld and dungeon segments, and it terminates after specific world or dungeon bosses are killed.
Seamless removes all of that. If OP is looking for a true end-to-end co-op experience, the mod is basically the only way.
From experience, Seamless is more difficult than solo purely because of the scaling - I played a full strength build at 150+, and my friend a Mage 150+, best armour and weapons for our build, and we STILL struggled with the later bosses. It's a notable difference, especially if you simultaneously play a vanilla run-through. Malenia as an example, easily took 20+ attempts over a few days in co-op, whereas it only took me a couple attempts in solo.
Seamless was fun and added to the experience as well; when I first started playing I didn't really like the game as I didn't understand it or how to play. Being able to do it with friends was what made it fun for me, and I eventually went on to do two vanilla playthroughs once I understood how it worked. It's now my favourite game.
I'll leave some stuff for you to check out below

Hope that helps!
Cheating yourself, still see it as cheating (but then I see no problem, everyone do whatever they want to themselves).
