Roll-catching is actually breaking my immersion
How is it possible that every single enemy in the DLC knows exactly how fast and what distance my character is rolling EVERY SINGLE TIME to delay its attack exactly until that moment to roll-catch me? (let's not count all the drink-catching these enemies have mastered as well...)

This is breaking my immersion every time.

How do all these enemies know exactly the roll technique of my character? Did they all have the same martial arts master as the main character so they've learned the exact timing of the one roll technique that is available in the whole world and to counter it perfectly every single time? It's impossible!

Explain, Fromsoft, explain!

no they just read your inputs

Are you sure you're not dodging exactly the moment they're about to perform a catch?

Also, I think someone mentioned enemies in this game can read into character animation or something (instead of input reading).

thats actually just how you program ai btw. Its how it was done in morrowind. its how it was done in DS1. Its how it was done in every fighting game ever made.

The cpu looks at what the player is doing then chooses from a list of things to do. The AI literally NEEDS to read the players inputs to give you the experience of fighting you. Because as humans you are reading its inputs. When we pvp we read eachothers inputs. (literally if you spam roll or roll in predicable manners in pvp you'll get grabbed out of it over and over during the spot where there isn't iframes.)

Its really a very childlike view to think you can program a combat ai without IF statements that include what the player is doing... like how do you think video games work? lmao

I mean as long as you know, most people who complain about it seem to think there is a different way to do it....

but yeah if you know and understand how the AI is reacting to you then it can go a long away into starting to manipulate it a bit which makes things easier.

Delay attacks are mostly to fake you out, they punish panic rolling, the base game had lots of them too. They are annoying, but they do teach you not to panic.
The one of these i struggled with the most at first were the bell bearing hunters, their attacks are absolutely brutal but are easy to dodge so long as you don't panic.

So when the Nagoriyuki CPU in the Guilty Gear arcade mode does this ♥♥♥♥ everyone gets angry at him, why are we not allowed to get angry at the elden ring AI does that?

it doesn't really break my immersion as much as physically going through hits with the roll like a ghost

or how you can be a random dude in underwear with a wooden club beating a literal god

it's just a game

Don't roll then. It's a trap in many situations and it locks you out of attacking. Try jumping instead. Gives you a quicker comeback. Jumping has no invincibility window, so there's a tradeoff. But your safezone gets elevated as soon as you hit your jump button. Which is great!
Also try to sidestep with/without lock on. And with that I mean walk to the side. It's ridiculous how many attacks you can evade with running left/right w/o a lock on,

Rolling often works great if you don't use it to get away. Try to roll into the attacks. This way you're closer to attack and sometimes end up in "blindspot" for a couple of frames which gives you an advantage.

Working on timing is crucial. But it will keep you alive. If I can do it, so can you.

A great quote: "Precision Beats Power, Timing Beats Speed."

Btw. There is NO input reading. ER uses a form of animation reading. Which is slower and dumbed down enough just to make the fights compelling.
If you always roll into attacks, that's on you ;)! I mean, they don't get me that much and I'm sure we have the same game.

These complaints are so silly. Rollcatching is exactly how REAL people play in PvP, has been since DS1. You can't make an argument for it being 'unrealistic' when it is in fact what real people use in these games as one of the most basic mechanics.
I get that invaders use roll catching all the time - they are trained warriors. But half of the enemy roster has too many limbs or is a frothing undead mutant with swords for arms or worms for a face -- how exactly did these abominations train martial arts to the perfection of roll-catching the greatest warriors of all the lands?
