Man the quality drop from Rellana is appalling.
Can't even crit him half the time because it's glitched out.
Some of the hitboxes are pretty dookie and god forbid he starts the grab attack otherwise inshallah it is over.

Sadly Golden Hippo isn't optional as far as I'm aware.

There's another way into the shadow keep through the church district i kind of assumed that means he's optional. but if he isn't then it truly will be a from software moment

No idea if he's optional or not but he kind of melts if you stagger him, and use charged AOE spells like burn o flame with godfrey icon. I did that and chunked off like 10k per cast. Mixed with poise break crystal tear and jump heavies from a zweihander and he went down pretty fast.

Could be worth looking into if you're struggling.

Hey, at least Hippo gives you ample time to attack or heal. That's already a much better offer than, say, Rellana you mentioned (as cool as she is aesthetically).

while he is Optional.. he does have x2 Scadutree Fragments and other loot thats very much worth getting. kinda wish they put him in a bigger room the camera is the worst in that fight

Currently running a strength build but i decided to just spam some jump attacks here and there and he's a lot easier to poise break than i thought, just managed to kill him thank ♥♥♥♥.

managed to get him two hits away on my first try and been struggling until 30 seconds ago.

Dont lock on when you enter, run left, sumon spirit ash when hippo crashes into wall. Keep running until ashes draws his agro then you'll have a good start with full health.

Her input reading is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sinful to be fair every time you heal she hits you with that magic slice i was a massive fan of everything else about her though.

the amount of times I swore i dodged through the open mouth grab and it just snaps me back a few frames into his mouth is insane. happened on the open world non-boss versions of him too.

Don't worry the non-boss variant is a joke.. isn't even threatening in the slightest

His moveset is not too bad even tho the camera is awful and he is just too big and flails around too much.

But he is only hard because he hits so hard and you have barely time to remember his moves. Maybe get some more upgrades to make it more doable.

You need to run sideways for the grab. You cant alwaysm avoid it tho it seems, when you are too close or the small arena does not allow such a move.
