The solution to this is easy. Just don't walk into a wall. It's you, the player, who did that. Not the camera, or the boss, or anyone else. You did that, just like you decided to lock on to the boss that's jumping around more than Sif before he starts limping.
That has nothing to do with preparation. Just lock on when necessary, and don't if not.
