Greyed Out Incantation

Hi elden ring people,

I recently equipped the Bloodflame Blade incantation, but the game won't let me use it. It's greyed out in the left-hand menu. I made sure my stats were high enough, and the weapon I'm trying to use it with is +16 Keen Nagakiba with the Double Slash ash of war. I've seen so many videos of people using the incantation with Nagakiba and then proceeding to do the Double Slash move, so now I'm confused. Any advice?

I'll share my character's stats:
Level 71
Vigor 40
Mind 11
Endurance 13
Strength 18
Dexterity 43
Intelligence 9
Faith 14
Arcane 12

My character is wearing a Spelldrake Talisman, a Starscourge Heirloom, and a Two Fingers Heirloom.

I'm not sure what the guy above me is talking about.

There was a thread yesterday or something where someone had almost exactly the same problem. The problem ended up being that he was two-handing the weapon he was trying to enchant. Is it the same for you?

He specified that he has Keen infusion. Standard/Keen/Heavy/Quality don't affect elemental applications.

Sure, I'll throw some ♥♥♥♥ out there.

This'll sound stupid, but in the interest of covering all bases, do you have a sacred seal equipped in your left hand? Weapon buff incants only work on weapons wielded in your right hand.

Are you using some other weapon buff prior to trying Bloodflame Blade, such as Freezing Grease or a different weapon buff incant like Poison Armament?

Weapon requirements are met. Incantation requirements are met. These are the only things I can think of off the top of my head. Just recreated it on a low level character of mine to confirm it ain't bugged.

If there's already another buff on the weapon like a grease, the new buff will just replace it.

I had thought about that and tried it on the right hand only, but it was still greyed out sadly.

Strange. The only other thing I can think of is that you could be low on FP. That seems really obvious though. Maybe you could take a screenshot to show us?

I haven't been using any greeses, and this is the only incantation I have equipped. Nagakiba is in my character's right hand, and I've tried both two-handing and one-handing it. I also took the "Keen" off the ash of war and went with Standard in case that was the cause.

My brother in Marika, to cast Incantations you need a Sacred Seal in your opposite hand, which you don't have.

You thought you could cast them with just your wits? No, you're a feeble Tarnished, you're not THAT good.

Hot tip, you NEED a seal for incantations and you NEED a staff for sorceries
