In the trailer, it says something along the lines of "those stripped of the grace of gold shall all meet death by Messmer's flame"
Perhaps the land of shadow is where the golden order sends people they don't wanna deal with. Whats also interesting is the fact it says they shall meet Death, when death isn't really a thing in the lands between untill we restore the rune of death to the elden ring. So either A:death still works normal in the land of shadow, or B: Messmer might be doing something a lot worse to those people, like impaling them alive (like Vlad)
Cursing someone to be a ginger......now i understand why the Golden Order and Zamor people went after the fire giants....so petty.
I also thought maybe he was referring to us, and why Marika "sanctions lordship" for us. (That is, if Marika was the one that gave us grace back. Otherwise that doesn't make sense.)
See you guys back here when it turns out I'm 110% correct and nobody believed me.
Edit: Just reading the above - if Norm is right his name would apply to the influenced person instead of him being the influencer. Interesting.
So Miquella
= St. Trina ( lady form )
= Messmer ( boy form )
Imo in the trailer it means "Mother, would you grant lordship to"... basicallly someone not of royal blood or someone undeserving. And he really disapproves of that, i.e. you, the player.
But the way you put it makes a lot of sense as well. He might be completely confused about why Marika would grant a Tarnished the grace of gold.
edit:
That seems fitting.
Edit: Sorry! in other words yes, but the Greater Will wouldn't grant them grace unless there was a good reason to. For example Morgott was an omen (omens don't have grace), but he was granted grace on death for his service in protecting the Erdtree.
