As for the rest of it i guess it makes the process of discovery and risk vs reward more interesting i guess.you could die to some trash or die making a dodgy jump just for trash or to get incredible item.i think its fair.second playthrough you probably remember where is pointless
But do people actually like finding those leaves? i pretty much never use consumables due to being a hoarder.

I usually find it good for a laugh, but I can see how it wouldn't be to everyone's taste.
