Should you single or dualwield katanas as a samurai ?

Depends on the plastyle you prefer. Dualwielding weapons deals higher dps, twohanding a weapon deals more stance damage.

Generally, a single, two-handed Katana would be preferable. It is fast and reliable, all you could need.
Of course, one sword deals less damage than two, but the trade-offs for Katanas may not be worth it.

The powerstanced moveset for Katanas is quite poor, with only the crouching and the jumping attack being good thanks to their speed and the fact they strike together.
Standing and running attacks suffer from long animations that hit seperately, wich is generally not favourable, since this means you may get hit out of your second attack.

Of course, it is still very playable, but it might get a little bothersome against faster bosses or normal enemies with enough poise to not get staggered by a single hit, as such i personally recommend a single, two-handed Katana instead.

Ditto what Imperator Ricardo said about katanas. If you want a cool dual-wield, go with curved swords or thrusting swords. Even regular straight swords are better than katanas when it comes to dual-wielding.

You can block when you two hand a weapon.

Dual wield, more damage especially for late game bosses that have a lot of more health. Jumping and rolling L1 are kind of fast with dual wield Katanas. Rolling L1 is great for i-framing attacks and attacking.

Dual wielding is overall better.
You can proc more bleeds, Do more damage kill people faster.

As a samurai your main weapons are the bow, naginata or musket. And dual-wielding two katanas is nonsense. You have a wakizashi that you can use as an offhand weapon.

Yeah, you are right. One long sword in the dominant hand, and one short sword in the offhand.

I hope the return of dual weapons in ER and the tachi weapon class means you have access to katana (or tachi)/wakizashi dual weapon set again.

Dual for DEX, and 1 hand for STR. You'll get more damage while 1 hand it, but hit quicker while dual.

I personnaly switch between 1-hand and dual.
