Linear dlc?
Won't lie, I HATE the "open world" part of elden ring. It feels like they made this huge area first, then haphazardly plopped enemies and reused bosses.

If the DLC's level design is like ds1-3s, I'll probably pick it up. It would be nice to actually be in a well thought out area with tricks, traps, and side paths that rarely appear in base game.

Personally I like the open world and would be disappointed if the DLC for the open world game ditched the concept.

Linear = Nope for me. Been a looooong time since I wasted money on linear arcade games. Little to no replay value there. If anything, the dungeon areas need more pathways through them. More options is better for replay.

I literally said "like ds1-3" -_-

And the souls series is waaaaay more replayable than elden ring. There's just too much stuff spread way too thin over the ridiculously huge and empty map.

I agree, I'm a huge fan of the DS series and I always laugh when people are like "Yeah bro it's insane the game got so many bosses like daaamn dude". Might be true on paper but in reality it just feels like you're facing more or the same boss most of the times.

Also when it comes to replayability I tend to almost never wanna create new characters for ER simply because the feeling of creating something new is so overwhelming. I know I'm gonna be on horseback for so many hours throughout the zones depending on what items/build/SL I'm going for.

One could argue it should feel the same in the DS series but somehow because it's a bit more linear and less pleb bosses it feels so different in a good way.

Map is not at all empty tho. You have one of those tired bs opinions and immediately gave another commenter a clown.

ds1 - ds3 are literally hallways. Iv'e tried so damn hard to get into Ds3 and I quit every time because of this fact right here.

Not all empty, but definitely most. So many areas can be blitzed through with torrent, and the reward inside each little patch of enemies are either low tier mats or runes. The same bosses are pasted everywhere, with maybe slight tweaks to their stats.
The dungeons and tombs you find are kinda neat, but suffer from the same copy/paste boss problem as open world bosses.
The whole game seems padded out. I can't tell you how many times I fought the dungeon variant of a boss before the original.

Land mark main areas are where the game shines the most. Enemies are intentionally placed in ways to ambush and challenge the player. Multiple paths to take that can circle around and make shortcuts. Traps and puzzles that can lead to great rewards. Overall, neatly designed areas intended to keep you on your toes.

The underground areas of elden ring is how I wished the entirety of the overworld was designed. Sure, it's still open, but all the action is neatly packed together. There isn't one place down there where I feel like I can just mindless blitz through. It essentially mocks the overworld design.

And elden ring is the equivalent of the corn fields of iowa.

I'd rather settle for a compromise - take the best of both "worlds", combine them in a way that makes sense and so that the one doesn't overshadow the other.

Probably won't happen, but one can dream.

it won't, why would you even ask such a thing? did you decide to just not watch the trailer or something?

Hey I actually quite enjoy corn. It's delicious.

Hallways on the other hand not tasty at all.

people should stop forcing themselves to buy things they don't like instead of trying to change them into something completely different

the solution to you not liking open world is not buying an open world game in the first place not trying to change it into a linear game lmao

That's where you're wrong. Some of my favorite games have open worlds, I just don't like how elden ring did it.

If you bothered to read what I posted before, you would of seen how I praised how the underground sections were designed. The overworld is a snoozefest that only serves to artificially create scale, and bloat your harddrive.

I mean, that's your personal opinion. For me, I absolutely love the freedom to explore and come back later, especially if I find an area particularly difficult for me to get through. I love the exploring, finding items, etc. My only main gripe, and I think it's a common one, is so many of the "dungeons" seem very similar. I am hyped for the expansion set. I can't wait.

Miyazaki talked in interviews about smoothing the experience between open field and legacy dungeon structure. Curious to see how this plays out.

unlucky for you then

I am the exact opposite and had more fun with elden ring's open world than any other open world game
