That move is a little tricky but with a little practice you’ll get it. If you’re wearing and typical mage set, you should be light rolling and that’ll make things a ton easier. If you’re rocking bullgoat or bigboi armor, you should be able to tank a few swipes and come out alive.
Second phase is all about playing on the defensive. Keep trying and eventually you’ll get her.
Is there any way you could upload a screenshot of your build? I could probably help you out more if I saw that
If she does her flower attack, it will leave her vulnerable to ranged attacks. so go nuts with spells. I did a lot of damage with meteor of astel right at the beginning of phase 2. Comet of azur is the better choice though. Also see if you can give her some frostbite for bonus damage. Last time I fought her, she did that flower attack three times. Try keeping your distance as much as possible.
Use physick with that crystal tear that eliminates all FP use for this situation so you can get the most out of it. Darkmoon greatsword can also do some heavy melee and stance damage if you use buffed R2s. Mimic tear can make this a lot stronger, even. She may heal off of hitting it, but it can also draw aggro. Worth a try.
For waterfowl dance: Try to run away from flurry 1, dodge towards & next to her for flurry 2 and 3.
That flower clone attack: It's easiest to run far far away from that, every hit has limited range
You will have to dodge waterfowl dance a few times though.
Ranni's Dark Moon is pretty bad DPS and FP efficiency. It's very good as a frostbite opener which buffs your real spells but that's it.
Night Comet is the bread and butter spell for Malenia or any boss that's jumpy and small. Night Comet is not dodged by the AI however Malenia automatically dodges after receiving damage which may look like she's dodging your spell if you cast back to back.
Comet Azur is used to punish her phase 2 transition.
Carian Regal Scepter with 80 INT is the casting staff of choice with a Staff of Loss in your off hand to buff Night Comet.
Talismans should be Ritual Sword, Ritual Shield, Dragoncrest Greatshield and Godfrey Icon. I wear the Snow Witch Set for the fashion but real armor like the Knight Set can be helpful. Just make sure you're medium rolling while NOT leveling endurance at all.
Stat spread should be 80 INT, 38 Mind, everything else into Vigor.
Flask distribution should be 6 Crimson and 8 Cerulean all at +12. That'll be more than enough Cerulean flasks to not worry about misses and enough Crimson flasks for mistakes.
Mixed Physick is Infinite FP tear and Magic Damage tear.
The fight looks like this: Open with 2 Ranni's Dark Moon to proc frostbite. After that it's charged Night Comets for phase 1. Spacing is VERY IMPORTANT! You must always have enough distance to dodge waterfowl! Don't double cast spells. Charged Night Comet -> get some space and see if she starts waterfowl -> if she doesn't waterfowl then Charged Night Comet.
That'a a good time to talk about dodging waterfowl as a ranged character! It's pretty easy IF you're properly spaced when she starts it. When you see her jump in the air you start running away from her in a straight line. Don't turn! While running you wait for her to do 1 jump and spinning slashes, 2 jump and spinning slashes then when she's starting the third jump and slash you unlock, walk straight towards her and dodge through her to the other side 3 times.
When phase 2 starts you drink the physick immediatetly and then dodge the scarlet aeonia. Once you're clear of the AOE it's Comet Azur blasting time. Don't get greedy with it! Stop shooting once she starts getting up and resume the Charged Night Comet with spacing.
Phase 2 is much like Phase 1. The waterfowl dodge is the same, the scarlet aeonia can be punished with a Comet Azur every time. Her move when she jumps in the air and starts sending ghosts to stab you CAN be spaced and out ranged if you have been having good positioning and not getting greedy.
That's it I think. GLHF!
The Kamehameha is basically Azur Comet + infinite mana flask: at the begininning of the second phase she leaves herself vulnerable so you can use that time for dealing big damage to her and then you can return stunlocking her with the Black Flame Tornado
Night Comet is the best spell in the game and even has better dps than Comet Azur with double staves of loss.
