no. they are special weapons with special weapon arts.

reference this page. each item will say if it can have an ash of war applied or not.

no i mean i want it.... its kinda sad the game is built around ashes of war but if somber weapons with set ashes dont have ashes of war you want, you cant use the weapon at all... im also not saying to make their special ashes of war equipable on other ♥♥♥♥ but just to add the option to change em with the current list of equippable ashes of war.

no, there are mods that do that but in vanilla you cant

XD again im saying fromsoft should make an update to CHANGE that... i already know thats the case but am saying it should no longer be with how much the ashes of war were built around.....
NisseDood Feb 28, 2024 @ 11:59pm
Fromsoft hates fun.
Its like how boss weapons and elemental infused weapons cant be buffed in ds3.

No.
great argument, real convincing! my reason on the other hand is the same for why i want a button to swap between the 2 avalible ashes to you WITHOUT needing to clunkily switch to eitehr two handing the main for hits ash of war or 1 handing each for the off hands ash and also the fact that it just ruins SO ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ MANY of the somber and locked ash of war weapons like the tree spear or the carian knight swords which become fully just worse versions of other weapons in their trees because they cant have their ashes swapped. honestly saying NO and leaving it at that is both lazy and so ignorant of the fact that even if most all somber and locked ash of war weapons could use the a slottable ashes, virtually all would be at best, decent and still at worst, probably still pretty trash cause hell, i would be fine if they didnt get any infusions so somber weapons still cant have their unique color changed (the lore reason for somber weapons needing a colorless somber stone to improve em is to maintain their unique color which hackshaw ridge does a great color theory video for elden ring here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcIEWVFSce8) so they still would have the same scaling and elemental dmg type they had before but they could just use different ashes of war.

Mate, calm down. You asked a question and someone answered it.
Nothing about it was lazy or ignorant, not of the person answering you and not of the developers designing the weapon.

It's realy cute that you think the elden ring developers would actually look in here and then see this post and be like "oh yea our design philosophy was ♥♥♥♥ for years so let's change it"

What are you even trying to say here?

You initially asked if Ashes of War can be changed on somber weapons whose AoW is fixed. Two people on here tell you no, it indeed is not possible. You not enjoying or agreeing with it doesn't make it a ♥♥♥♥ answer.

According to GPT :D
In Elden Ring, to apply Ashes of War to Somber Weapons, you'll need the special Whetstone called the "Ashen Whetstone." This unique item allows you to imbue your Somber Weapons with the power of Ashes of War, enhancing their abilities and altering their effects. You can typically obtain the Ashen Whetstone through specific quests, defeating certain bosses, or as rare drops from challenging enemies in the game world.
