Also yes. No idea why so many players use it outside of the fight. It's not always about effectiveness I guess, maybe they use it for role playing purposes.

I was cruising with this for a couple days, expecting ( or hoping ) the DLC would encourage a bunch of Mogh play. It didn't and I changed it.

Pretty much this.
I usually have the purifying tear equipped while having the golden effigy active. Sure, the slot is wasted with any other boss, but better than getting caught with your pants down. :)

This is a fair explanation for co-opers, but not for hosts at Maliketh and Radabeast, heck I've had a few of these hosts at Malenia.
