edit: also, against shield wielding enemies, get the Kick Ash of War, which in a single activation will often break their guard and open them up for a riposte. The Hammer Talisman even enhances Kick even further.
considered this ash of war, but its a little too far from the aesthetic im going for despite def being effective. My drink would probably be mixed with the stonebarb tear and the one that makes me do more magic damage perhaps.
the kick does also seem like a good choice. that combined with buckler parry/carrian retaliation can make it easy to deal with random goons. Might even consider using hidden body for easier backstabs.
edit: Assassin's Gambit and Hidden body combined render lock on in pvp effectively useless, as the distance to lock to you is decereased dramatically. Just fyi.
Does 40 stance damage without the follow up, will break most stances on second use.
this is your best option, its unfortunately a bit too good.
best resource would be fextralife.
If you wanted to stick with the dagger no matter what, gravitas as an ash of war has a pull-in effect with similar perks as the Onyx Lord's Greatsword, the ability to infuse cold for some stat procs. Can't vouch for the feel you're going for but those are two options I endorse for magic positioning ability. Plus the concept of a gravity magic assassin is pretty cool.
Truth be told, Fallingstar Beast Jaw was absolutely what you wanted to have but they massively nerfed the poise damage on the ash of war.
I second this, best poise breaking ash of war even for non int builds. You can also try and use Gavel of Haima BUT to ensure you can charge it up and trade with a boss, off-hand the staff with a weapon that has endure on it in main hand.
under the assumption that i can get the same effect by using the black knife torso along with hidden body. if so this is very good to know.
found a good source for looking at stance damage and yeah this ash of war is kind of insane. i was thinking the greatblade phalinx spell would do much more but it does a whole 31?!? Very odd. The spell phalinx spells are also much less than i thought theyd be.
My tailsmans will be the dagger talisman for more crit damage, as well as the red and blue ones that heal your hp and hp on riposte, with my last one being blue scorpion or something.
Spells will probably just be both the Haima spells, glintstone pebble for chip damage and fp efficiency, and hidden body for stealth larping.
Not sure about the staff. Was thinking of using Azurs for the extra cast speed? Then id have either a buckler to parry with or a smaller but fashionable sheild to put carian retaliation on.
Id like to thank everyone for their suggestions here. Very helpful and creative stuff. Feel free to leave further suggestions as ill probably enjoy reading any further thoughts from you guys! Cheers
If you are a caster build, I'd strongly suggest taking Radagon's soreseal instead of scorpion. You lose like 15% magic damage (while only 3/5 of your primary damage source - the misericorde - is magical) but get health, stamina and most importantly equip load for heavier armor. Pebble poise damage sadly got nerfed but it is still a very nice option for pvp, if you want a similar weapon art that hits hard and is actually busted , use Glintstone Kris dagger. You CAN take azur staff since you won't be casting much between aow's and crits, but i'd take something that doesnt increase spell cost, they are costly already and for poise casting you have endure so these couple moments of faster casting are quite a minor difference. If you want some JUICY crit dmg, slap Royal knights resolve on misericorde and activate it before a crit. So that you have 2 sets of weapons: one is staff and smth with endure, other is rapier with phalanx and a misericorde. Glintstone kris if you wanna for some reason play mage and nuke something from afar. Glintstone pebble is only viable as stance-breaker on larger weapons like greatswords.
I'm not entirely sure the interaction between the weapon's original poise damage and the Ashes' R2 poise damage, since the game handles attacks, animations, and base calculations intricately. All I know is, this let me cheese the hell out of the Gargoyle bosses with a Scythe, since the base R2s aren't as good as the Ash R2 in that situation. Led to easy crumples when not letting up aggression.
You'll want a combination of big and stronk, and nimble enough to disallow regeneration of their poise.
DUDE RKR to boost the crit damage is actually so sick and frnakly you win the whole thread for suggesting that. So maybe the play will be Phalinx on the rapier, RKR, and the glintstone Kris as a weird 3rd thing. Its kind of a shame how much of the info you can find on this is just outdated nowadays. The source I found from reddit listing the pebble stance damage still says flame of the redmanes does 40.
Also yeah Azurs is probably not the right choice for me unless i can hit 70 virtual dex for the casting speed. My line of thinking was mostly that I want a staff that uses somber stones cause normal stones are weirdly way too hard to come by. I just now remembered that the crystal staff exists so I think thats gonna be the play.
