ELDEN RING

ELDEN RING

Is it common to be burnt out by this game after around 100 hours?
I've played for about 110 hours. Anything before Leyndell capital went quite smoothly with ups and downs along the way.
However, since Leyndell capital I started to feel the game becoming a drag. The underground area felt like a chore. The boss was still quite fun but...
Morgott is the last boss I beat and I have no interest to keep going anymore. Anyone got a similar experience? I feel like its the repetitive dungeons, re-used or recycled mobs, mobs with cheap mechanics just to annoy the player and probably more that I can't think of right now.

The game certainly doesn't feel as "groundbreaking" as people make it out to be.

C. Yes
D. In dungeons, almost always. In the open world map, depends.
So yeah, you're pretty close to closing out the main content of the game. There's a lot of side content left, but in terms of main progression you have two more areas and five bosses left.

Faith is pretty strong early game, however it falls off in this particular part of the game. Bosses will start to have high Holy resistance. But if you're primarily using incantations, then you should have access to some higher tier lightning and fire spells to get through the last third of the game. Also, 40 Vigor is pretty decent. Most RL 125-150 builds spec for 54-60 Vigor with certain talismans to get above 2000 hp.

So here's how I see it, take a break until you feel reinvigorated to return to the game is the first option. If you genuinely have no interest in mushing on, there is no shame in taking a break. The second option is to tough it out until the end, as there isn't much main progression content left, and be done with the game.

Do whatever you think will bring you the most "enjoyment" in the end.

The only way I can see someone getting burnt out is if they suck at the game and die 20 times per boss. I have over 224 hours on a single character in this game and I just made another new character. My hours on Steam won't match because I've been using the coop mod for well over a year now.
No. My average tries on a boss doesn't go beyond a single digit. There are a few exceptions, like twin gargoyles. I play these games for the bossfights. So I'm not bad at it.

Due to the vastness of Elden Ring, I can understand why you'd feel burnt out. However, I do have some questions that could, maybe, clarify why you feel this way. I haven't played since October of last year, but I also have ~820 hours in the game and have cleared the game and duel PvP'd to the max rank on all of the characters I've made. I'm eagerly awaiting the DLC drop lol.

A). What build are you using? Stats matter in ER, and hybrid builds are self-imposed challenges unless if you level up a lot (Stats and builds are NOT like DS3). Damage and weapon type as well as movesets will drastically change how "fun" certain encounters could be. Powerstancing is also heavily encouraged for certain weapon types. It would be informative to know your current character stats and weapon levels.

B). What had taken you so long to reach the midway point of the game? This is by no means a critique of skill or whatever, but I do question your pace so far. Post-Leyndell the game pretty much points you in all the directions you have to go to progress the main quest. If you feel burnt out, just know you don't have to be so thorough in exploring and just zoom to the next boss after some open-world running.

(FYI: There are five main progression fights in the game after Leyndell, so you're closer than you think to the end.)

C). Have you done any NPC quests?

and...

D). Do you try and fight every mob encounter or do you ride past them?

The game is not that fun after Morgott. That's why you play pvp. Pvp is 10000 times more fun than solo gaming, even coop pvp. That's why these games are still active even now, even DS1. The ultimate fun.
Elden Ring's world is pretty big and without any pointers it might feel overwhelming at times to really explore everything.
If the game feels like it's dragging on don't forget to take a break from exploring every now and then. Read item descriptions, try to piece together the lore, make up your own theories about the Lands Between to fill in gaps you might discover.
If this still feels like it's not doing it, take an actual brake from the game. Do something else, play another game, go outside (I do not mean this ironically or in a condescending way), and eventually you might feel like continuing your playthrough.
Alternatively, try to find out why the reused mobs/bosses and recycled dungeons feel like they're not worth playing against/through them.

And always keep in mind: not all games are made for everyone. If, after taking a break, the game still feels like it's dragging on despite all the praise you read online, it might just not be your cup of tea.

Is it groundbreaking? Maybe not in the sense that it revolutionized video games or the industry as a whole (not that I could tell, lol).
Is it a breath of fresh air compared to lots of other (think: bigger, more famous) franchises, including previous soulsborne titles?
In my opinion, absolutely. From what I have read the last two years, it's still a game with shortcomings in regard to qol, customization, community support, you name it. There's endless praise and mockery regarding Elden Ring.

Despite all of this, I still enjoy the hell out of it and I can't wait for the dlc to be announced and released. Usually making new builds for coop and invasions is what makes me keep coming back.
I got kinda bored or tired when i reached Mountaintops in my first playthrough. But iirc, it was because i was not using Ashes of War nor magic/incantantions, since i always make a simple build on first playthrough.
I hit level 713 last night. If you're burned out you should probably go back to your live service game and continue to spend your parent's money on it.

This here is your problem. You get annoyed by the game. Just leave it, you have started to bash the game repeatedly here, and it won't get any better. Stop playing, maybe come back when the DLC is here and rediscover with a different mindset. Or not. It's not ER, it's you.

The snowy areas are pretty dismal imo. But the Crumbling Farum Azula area right before the final (and small) area...it's legit my favorite.
Play a different game for a bit until you wanna play elden ring again. Perhaps garfielt kart
I dunno .. I get the burn out problem. The game is so vast .. it just doesn't have that insanely coherent design that dark souls I & III had. They were vast but centred around an area. Vast .. but centred strongly on a small number of very fleshed out characters from which you can emerge a story with no lines then argue about it online using the minor characters and blasting every wall in the game till you find them. At least I'm so old I can't complain about pvp - when your reaction times are so bad you can't parry .. it's kinda dull.

Instead I find myself wandering around finding things till I'm so bored I try and rememeber what the last goal was by back-tracking then I give up .. and look it up online. At one point I even had to take most of my armour off as I'd missed an imporant area for about 3 horus (the first big castle) and it had become really easy. Only way you could do that in DS1 without reading specialised guides was to do blightown first at lvl 1 (the back way) on your first run or run an area repeatedly for hours cos you'd failed the boss fight 40 or 50 times.

Bigger is only better .. when you develop tolerance or grow a lot. Even then .. it's still mainly better for the person getting paid for it.
Because nothing happend in leyndell. you fight godfrey and nothing happens. the first elden lord and you don't even get a remembrance. the rest of the game is a chore because the writing and flow is very badly done. rykard and radahn are basically afterthoughts as far as bosses go. when they have very exciting lore feel like they should be integral to the story but they're basically just written into being nothing but scenic enhancements. you can tell half the endings are designed as "bad" endings so they can push their simp dogma all over the players. feels like my mother made this game.

Godfrey best boss in game, is 100% more worth the entire rest of the endgame
