Margit seemingly impossible

I've been stuck on this for hours now. I understand these games are supposed to be difficult but this is just beyond absurd especially for a first boss. No other boss in any of the souls games is this hard and unfair and I've played them all. Nameless King was even easier than this by a long shot. What gives?

edit: Can someone delete or lock this post or something so it don't keep getting the exact same long winded advice over and over again? I get the jist, level up and get better gear first thank you.

Hes designed to teach you to not spam roll. Learn his timing and when to dodge and proper spacing, or learn to parry, or use a shield.

The main trouble is you are considering him a "first boss". This is an open world game; explore! Stormveil Castle is meant to be one of the last things you do in Limgrave; try exploring south towards the Weeping Peninsula instead. That will give you opportunities to level up, find upgrade materials and additional tools, and get used to the game in general.

Level vigor.
Buy Margit's Shackle from Patches and use it against him.

He is vulnerable to poison and bleeding, several early weapons have bleeding effect.

Yeah ok I explored Limgrave a bit at first but I guess not enough. I figured since it's open world that it was like Skyrim or something where everything scales to you. The game also seemed to be directing me toward Margit from the very beginning so I assumed he was meant to be dealt with first. I just killed the mariner guy and was a complete joke. So yeah I guess I'll just clear these first areas until I have enough power or whatever.

Level is usually not the issue of Margit. You'll get your ass beat just as bad at level 50 if you don't know what you are doing. Like another poster said, there is an item you can find that will trivialize the first quarter of the fight.

But beyond that, learn his moveset. Spend a couple practice fights with a medium or heavy shield up and just learn how and when he uses his attacks. A decent amount of them are designed to punish rollspam so get the timing down for some his charged attacks is key if you want to iframe them.

If you just started the game, heading south instead and getting more general practice with the game through dungeons and exploring is also a good idea.

Steps to fighting margit
- Beeline for stormveil castle because the glowing trail of unicorn piss directed you there
- Get your teeth kicked in by margit
- Figure out that you aren't supposed to be here yet, and teleport back to gatefront ruins
- Wander a random direction
- Probably run into the dragon, or a hidden dungeon
- Clear dungeon
- Wander off in another random direction
- Repeat about 19 or so times
- Wtf was I doing again? Oh right, Margit.
- Return to margit and kick his teeth in without much effort because you now have better equipment and have been leveling vigor.
- You have been leveling vigor, RIGHT?

Go on an adventure until you are around LV 25-30. Boost Vigor. Then you will be ready.

Just keep fighting him, you'll get used to his moveset and pretty soon you'll be dodging everything he throws at you and wondering how you ever had so much trouble.

It's open world but nothing is scaled to you. If you run into a hard spot and feel your unable to proceed probably best to go and explore getting at least 10 lvls before coming back to that fight. Try to + your weapons also.

I'm also accustomed to their being an official "first boss" in souls games early on like Iudex Gundyr or Father Gascoigne so that threw me off also. Either way I've been exploring and leveling so we'll see what happens when I'm 25-30.
