Apparently Storm Assault is "broken"
I fail to see how that is and I'll address some of the things I heard.

"Hitbox is broken/too big, it can hit even behind the caster"

...Yea it's a circle of wind it's gonna hit pretty much on all sides of the caster, too big? you can just move 5ft away and you're safe.

"It stun locks you dude omg it fricking stun locks you!!"

yep and there are at least 30 other, if not more, AoW's that do the exact same thing. (cough cough nagaweebs and the beyblade slash)

"duh damage is to big and scarewy.."

uh huh so don't get hit by it, there are literally tons of weapons an AoW's that can one shot you or yoink 90% of your health, get over it.

It's not broken, It's not op, you can quiet frankly just avoid it by simply not getting to close to someone, it's a punishing AoW and if you're getting hit by it then it's probably because you're getting to close and playing to offensively/aggressively hence why you're getting punished. The wind AoW's are far from broken, they are situational and if you're putting people in the situation to use them or if they see an opening to use it... then they're going to use it. Switch up your tactics and stay on your toes, Elden Ring if full of glass cannon builds, you can't prepare for them all but you sure as hell can Improvise, Adapt, and Overcome. Where there's a will there's a way.

Case and point, I kill invaders with it all the time. Because it stunlocks them, then 1-shots them. Its also very cheap, and kills anything else that tries to get close as well. Sorry, but no other ash of war is that broken.

Also they can't interrupt me when I'm wearing heavy armor with the bullgoat talisman.

You can see the guy stops moving, raises their weapon into the air and starts spinning them.

Not many AOW do that, lets alone good ones, you have a good second or two to dodge away.

Doesn't matter if they can't react in time. And when they get too close, and too confident with a weapon too light to break poise... well its already too late.

Again, I regularly 1-shot invaders using this. It works because I use regular attacks much more often, and they just aren't expecting it. They also think I have less poise than I actually do >:)

More like psychology. I just play passively for a bit, make them think I'm not that confident, wait for them to get confident and aggressive, then... well, dead. Works almost every time.

Heck I've had it work on repeat invaders before. Which I'm still having trouble parsing.

the thing is, if you get a really good player, baiting them into BFT or stormhawk usually wont work, but with storm assault, any action your opponent commits to, you can trade into them on reaction and win the trade, usually by a lot.

and that's what matters when discussing game balance - what happens when the player is very skilled and playing optimally? not what usually happens when invading/hosting total randos in your day to day gameplay.

good players will read, space and outplay your attempts to bait them into BFT but will have no real counterplay to you trading everything they do with storm assault on reaction. thats why many pvp'ers want changes to storm assault and storm stomp but are not as concerned about stormhawk or BFT, even though stormhawk and BFT are the more well known and commonly used ashes of war with heavily overtuned damage. stormhawk and BFT have a variety of counterplay options available, storm assault does not.

My favorite one is where if you're using a Nagakiba or something else long and spinning slash somebody at point blank range your mid-roll doesn't travel far enough to escape it LOL
