Don't get discouraged! Elden was my first FromSoft game as well. I cried many times and now I am max 713 level. Never played any other souls like. Elden is one and only. You probably won't regret the purchase. Good luck!

another thing "NEVER" pick up items from strangers specially invaders check who they are some dedicated helpers here

as others already said, ask for help if you need any. but also if you get stuck somewhere, don't be discouraged, theres like hundreds of places to go, if something is too hard you can always skip it and come back to it stronger. thats the beauty of this game that theres no designated right path, you make the path by yourself.
