Whoever designed dogs to be one of the most annoying enemy in every single Souls game can go ♥♥♥♥ themselves. EVERY Dark Souls had annoying dogs that chase you endlessly and have spammy annoying attacks that can stun lock you forever. Elden Ring made the dogs even more annoying and even added giant dogs.

Wolves are stupid because they have that dumb side charge attack that they combo with several bites.

From Software just likes making annoying enemy types.

Buy a Beast Repellent Torch from Isolated Merchant in Caelid and put it offhand / on your back. It won't help against giant dogs, but the small dogs won't attack you anymore. It works as well with rats and basilisks.

Why you kill doggo? They're just chilling, not bothering anyone. And even if you attack them you just get their shell as a shield. Not worth it.

BLocking ♥♥♥♥♥ dogs up, they have low poise damage to shields/guard.

Doesn't work against normal sized dogs. They still attacked me. Rats stopped. Haven't tested Basilisks yet.

Ofc it works against any normal dogs, I use it the whole time, try again. Maybe you have somehow aggroed them. A few mobs attacks are also scripted, they will start one attack when your char gets to a certain point, but they'll stop after the first attack when they see your torch.

Confusion comes because it won't work on anything with red-eyes. Namely the big dogs in dragonbarrow. Should work against most of the regular ones though, unless you already aggro'd them before pulling out the torch anyway.

Yes, I told only about the normal dogs, but not about big ones .

Dogs like to lay their eggs by water, so plan accordingly.

Dogs were a lot easier to deal with in DS1 and 2 cause you had poise to deal with them. DS3 and ER not so much cause the games have no poise and you can be stun locked to death.

Guard counter is your friend.

Dogs in Demon's Souls are worse. Not because the dogs themselves are worse but because the controls are so much clunkier + no guard counter.

Imo dogs have been dethroned by those stupid flying rats with swords stuck to their legs , hate them !
