Everyone says go vigor.
I say go and get lightroll and stop tanking hits
"git gud" comes in many forms my friend. that's only 1 of 6 different variations
Even tho my first run I was with 14 VIG but then I started lvling it up to enough to survive 1 hit (what turns out to be VIG 25 for NG and 30~34 at NG+).
People forget about armor too when it comes to surviving.
Even tho I already beaten all bosses of the game not using flask I go "surviving 1 hit" (lack of patience to get 1hit) even because I play the souls games to chill (from simracing).
END and VIG too.
Goolden Halberd requires STR 30, DEX 14, FAITH 12, meaning if I start as Wretch I need at least +20 STR +4 DEX +2 FAITH (+26 levels only there) and to carry the GH + "some "not so heavy armor" early on like Godrick Knight Set without fatroll I need +8 END (with Arsenal Charm I would need +4 END without fatroll), without medroll and changing armor piece to Tree-and-Beast Surcoat I would need +50 END + Arsenal Charm (tho without head and gauntlet I would need +32 and without legs too I would need only +18, what I usually do going earlly for +18 END).
VIG I would rise up to 15 for the start areas (Limgrave and Liurnia) so +5 lvls and with Tree-and-Beast Surcoat as armor, I would be lvl 35 and it is more than enough to survive 1 hit even at Alltus Plateau and most of Caelid, 20 VIG at Altus and Caelid to survive 1 hit (lvl 40) and 25 VIG to survive 1 hit at endgame and Halightree so lvl 45 (considering a full heavy armor set, 60+ END, Great-Jar's Arsenal and Erdtree's Favor +2).
If I consider to take earlier the Great-Jar's Arsenal I can wear more armor earlier.
END and armor is heavily underrated in relation to how heavily overrated VIG is, in the example to survive 1 hit early on using pure VIG I would need all 45 levels to be spent at VIG, the ton of extra heallth may grant 1 extra hit against light hits of stronger enemies, maybe 2 early on, but wont grant survivability of stats (non-physical stats, poison, rot, bleed, poise...) and also wont grant extra stamina that may come handy if you play by dodge and attack or if you play using a shield (and using a good heavy shield makes you extra heavy).
Anyone that really understands the stats wont just go for VIG
