lasts 3 minutes. if you are exploring, equip it to your flask. once you pop the flask, if you die within those 3 minutes you will not lose your runes.

there is an item you can purchase and store, and the exchange rate when selling the item back is decent but imo that would become annoying.

I think a good investment is smithing stones, if you got the bell bearing.
Always a multiple of 12 for regular smithing stones, which upgrades 1 regular weapon and sombers only 1 of each per weapon

Don't ever worry about losing souls/runes or whatever.

There is endless supply of them and they are easy to obtain.
And you don't even need them that much to begin with.

Buy all of the stuff you want from various merchants beforehand. Pots, ingredients, arrows, etc.

Don't sweat it! It's part of the learning process. Though it hurts in the moment, there will come a time when you just don't care about runes because you're skill carries the day above leveling. I've lost millions of runes/souls in my time of playing Fromsoft games. I think I lost 800k one time in one of my NG+ runs

as much as it sucks losing a ♥♥♥♥ ton of runes, thats just how the game goes

Something that helps me is yeah I just lost a bunch of runes, but now its literally no longer my problem I got no runes to worry about

I mean, once you get to the grace where you can drop that 10,000 rune bird off the ledge with a bow, you don't have to worry about runes anymore. I've never framed there, but I always go there when I need the last few runes to level up, or yes when I need runes for an upgrade on my weapons ;-)
