ELDEN RING
Wanderer Coat is missing etc.
Just wanted to vent that the fashion has somehow taken a step back, and it lacks more neutral clothing and armor designs that you need to really tie a unique look together. With a limited number of neutral armors that go with many others, and the rest being ultra-flamboyant to the point where they just look terrible with any armor outside of its set. We really could have used some more basics like wanderer coats, other long-coats, and basic looking plates...

By the time you have almost every single set in the game, you can mix and match and find something that you like but is also somewhat unique. However, for the majority of players, the majority of the game will be spent looking quite terrible at looking unique, or just wear a full suit of something they just found in a chest all at once.

This is the one Souls game where most of the gameplay is literal wandering. Also the first one I've played without anything resembling the Wanderer's Coat.

I've searched for it since the first day of gameplay. Fashion souls is one of my favourite aspects of the series.

TL/DR This game doesn't actually lend itself well to custom fashion as well as some of the other games imo. The armor and clothing are all so over-designed, that most of the individual pieces look completely out of place and just bad, when combined with just about any other piece outside of its own set.

yeah fashion suffered this time, but thats actually a rare opinion, a lot of people dont agree actually and that surprised me
I still miss the steel armor and black iron armor from the Souls games. The fact they didn't even get an equivalent when the onion armor did feels like an attack.
I was looking for my black witch set and it doesn't seem to exist. :er_sad: I know we got the Snow Witch, but it's not nearly as elegant.

Also missing the desert pyromancer equivalent for all the thirsty people out there. Pyromancer top with witch's bottoms.... now that was a men of culture build.
Wanderer's coat was fugly, I'm glad it's gone. Glad most Dark Souls armors are gone, really. They never mixed well and I was getting sick of seeing them reused.

What do you wear?

The entire point I'm making is that the armor and clothing styles they are missing are also the ones that make it possible to tie custom outfits together. Worst of all, they are actually the outfits that are the easiest to design and implement, so there is no reason to have so few of them, when they could have made twice as many regular armor sets, which can mix and match, for how many ornate armor sets they've included, which are essentially worthless for fashion.

Omenkiller Set is my favorite cloth look.

Sets look way better than mixes (they always have) but off the top of my head here are some chestpieces I use as bases for mixing:

Hoslow's Armor
Scale Armor
Ronin's Armor
Elden Lord Armor
Bloodhound Knight Armor
Duelist/Rotten Duelist Armor
Night's Cavalry Armor
Kaiden Armor

And more I can't remember the names of. You can mix these with just about anything so long as the colors aren't complete opposites. I'll take some pictures sometime.

While it is completely subjective as to what looks better, a well mixed outfit or a developer set... I suppose if you are a player who prefers using the full sets, opposed to being creative, I would be hard-pressed to tell you Elden Ring doesn't have more variation from this angle.

But you listing only 8 chest-pieces out of like the hundred or so, how ever many there are, only highlights my complaint. It would be very easy to implement each piece of normal looking armor compared to the over-designed armor, and it would improve fashion souls dramatically by just adding like 8 basic chest pieces, you'd basically be doubling the potential for unique looking characters...

I even pointed out that by the end-game, you do have some options, but that's like the bare minimum I'd accept. And that is only available to me on my main character. The rest of the characters I make, there is no point in even altering their starting gear, because until I have almost all of the sets, there is no point in changing to anything other than my undies. So the lack of decent fashion options hurts replayability as well for me.
Totally agree, most of the mixing and matching somehow was lost here and considering the absolute massive size of the game I feel like it was a huge missed opportunity. I ended up using the Alberich set and loved it, but I felt like there weren't many good "mage-y" styles in the game. Every other play through I'd just slap on whatever until I got what I wanted and still never did it look as good as in the previous games even when I did get what I wanted.
You're not creative enough is the problem. Do you have any idea, for example, how many gold armors, weapons, and shields exist in this game? Its easy to mix and match pretty much all of them together.

For the others...well, ronin armor (prefer without cape) and leggings + bloodhound knight gauntlets + brigand mask. If you don't think that looks good you have no taste.

I only listed 8 off the top of my head. I have a life outside of Elden Ring, so I'm not exactly able to list every single good combination out there.

I also just don't care enough to at the moment. But you can take those pieces and try them out to see what I mean.

Like that other guy said, you lack creativity. Probably also suffering from rose-tinted glasses, which I won't blame you for. That's natural

Yeah I never said it was impossible to make a unique character too cool under any circumstance though. My chars still looked cool by end-game.

But like, how many helmets are basically unwearable for most sets. Wish there were more full helms that weren't stupid or whatever, you know, like, jsut ones that look good. It's weird that this request upsets people so much that they simp for the game by blaming my lack of creativity for pointing out an objective fact about they game that they actually have no legitimate argument against because everyone and their grandmother knows the armor in this game is way over-designed and a lot of it just silly for the sake of it.

TL/DR More normal armor please. That is all. Less ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
