ELDEN RING
Where is all the early armor sets at?
I been exploring all around, I have already Fought some bosses and went into certain places. majority of the boss drops are either weapons that I can't use due to stats or they don't match my character style or its some useless item. I only found 2 pieces of armor that are better than default but one I can't use due to weight. I started with the Vagabond starting armor and I been mostly using the default armor, already defeated Margit but I couldn't finish all the stormveil due to the amount of enemies and the damage i was taking. I tried visiting all the vendors around the map but none of them even sell good armor that is better than mine. I really don't want to entirely spoil it and go on the internet and instantly know all the locations but I would like to at least get some better armor from exploring but I can't seem to find any better armor. Is finding armor in the early game not so important or something?

i mean, every merchant tends to sell an armor set of some type, especially early on, otherwise its the same as every souls game: some questlines drop them, some enemies in the world do, and sometimes its just in the world all put togeteher.

armor has never really been a huge thing in souls games outtside of pvp where poise has meaningful inpact.

yes, a full set of armor can add an extra hit or 2 before death, but the difference between any 2 pieces isn't especially large unless your looking at the heaviest sets of armor.
armors mean very little in the game outside poise, and armors that give bonuses to certain spells/attacks. Most people that I know just get armor for fashion.
The amount of protections you are getting from armors usually come with the armor weight. So it's not like you can get lightweight armor that will be giving you protections of armor you cannot wear due to weight.
This is an open world, you will find useless stuff for your playstyle all around

And the best armors can be found on bosses, npc invasions, etc. They are heavy, so if you want to wear them you will need to invest in endurance

If you really wanna be a tank, some incantations and talismans are really effective on top of your armor
Thanks for the help, this is my first souls like game so I really didn't know that much about armor.

at its base: having equipment in all slots is good, due to how the math works, but beyond that the numbers dont make too much of a difference with the amount of damage enemies do, unless your comparing best/worst.

try to stay at mid weight load, and otherwise pick pieces you like/give buffs you want.

If you want more "focus" on armor then you may want to look at Dark Souls 2 as that game actually allowed you to upgrade your armor.

Other than that in souls games the armor is mostly just a style choice and not as important as it may be in other RPG games. Even running around naked has its advantages...
Yeah, Elden ring has an early game armor problem. I always pick the naked club guy every soulsborne game and it was ridiculous how long it took to get some armor in Elden ring. Usually you get some after the first boss in every other game.

What you need to do is farm the Godrick soldiers outside the church at the start of the game as they can drop their armor, that's what I figured out.
grind banished knights at stormveil castle(i use the one at the elevator near rampart grace) or the two at the dragon comms church in Caelid

you can also kill D at the start of the game at the outskirts of Summonwater village. this will not break any quests and you get his bell bearing for his shop.

the rule of thumb is that enemies will drop what they wear. arcane raises Discovery which increase drop %

I love how the Sidious/nun outfit is in a hilariously unreachable location for new characters. If you want it early role as Confessor.
All of my runs:

> Start as a naked Wretch and go clubbing.

> As a melee-exclusive Lordsworn-Longsword enjoyer, I will consider farming 2x Longswords and perhaps the full set at the start of the game (if I already have most pieces by the time the weapons drop).

> If the previous point doesn't apply, grab the "Knight" set from vendors later on. Either set will last until my build is verging near completion, so it doesn't matter either way.

> When fashion trumps stats, I might use Banished, Crucible, or something else. My current run, for example, involves the full melee Crucible cosplay (Crucible Armor + Great Stars + Crucible Shield).

The Knight set from Roundtable Hold is a great mix of protection and weight, and even if you're a scrub, it can last you until the end of the game -- and it can suit quite a lot of weapons and shields. You'll look clean, and be adequately protected for about 9k runes.

By the time my game is nearing completion, my storage is full of umpteen bazillion sets I have no use for.

Long story short -- unless you are trying to be super specific, you can get away with being a pure fashionista (most of the time), especially if the armor you like isn't fat-roll material.

If you fight a lot of the humanoid mobs you'll eventually have a bunch of decent low to mid weight armor sets.
Early game most armor sets are either dropped by specific enemies (banished knights, or any knight for that matter, for example) or sold by merchants.

There are a few armor pieces, such as the pumpkin helmet, that are unique drops, but those aren't part of sets mind you. Those are more common in Limgrave.

Now if you want a "proper" armor set (which is to say armor that is actually armor) two early game notables come to mind. The first is the "knights set" which is sold by the twinmaiden husks at roundtable hold, and the "iron set" (which looks closer to actual mercenary armor) which is another decent medium armor sold by a merchant at castle morne, the large castle on the southern tip of the weeping peninsula.

Any of the Soldier armors are good all round medium armors you can use pretty early; I got duplicate Godrick Soldier sets pretty early on just from exploring and fighting a lot.
