I personally used a heavy lordsworn's straight sword with square off and had no issues with damage throughout the entire game
Interesting. That's what I'm using right now (minus the heavy).
That's basically regardless of weapon chosen?
The heavy was nice because it meant I only needed to level up 3 stats, vigor, endurance, and strength
So by the end game at level 150, I had 60 vigor and 80 strength and like 40 or something endurance
I was fast, tanky, and hit decently hard especially with square off
Because if it's the latter, well, you'd be surprised how many weapons, sorceries, incantations, etc. don't have the best damage output, but are pretty stylish and fun to use.
However, some weapons are better as quality earlier than others. But you can pretty much bet that most weapons would be best at quality with 80 str & 80 dex. For my tastes, I scoped out a character with 55 / 55.
To be clear, I'm mostly comparing this to heavy and keen.
See for yourself.
Also guard counter is really strong with 2 handed weapons.
