So damage negation doesn't do a damn thing, does it?
Fought the Crucible Knight in Siofra River. First try had full Carian Knight armor and Dragoncrest Shield Talisman giving me around 20 dmg negation for everything physical. Second try I took off all my armor, replaced the talisman with Viridian Amber Medallion and had -15 dmg negation from Radagon's Soreseal. It literally did the exact same amount of damage to me.

Except this time I had enough mobility and stamina to evade him. So, what is even the point of armor?

actually it works for me, and mostly damage negation doesn't help a lot. it just makes you stand for one more attack. i use dragoncrest shield talisman +2 very often. maybe attacks were different for you?

Damage reduction does a huge difference if you stack bonuses together. You may not see it but it’s quite strong.

this guy tests this talisman at the end of this video, you might want to watch it

Damage negation can be useful against common enemies, but the bosses won't make a great difference, as far as I've seen. They use to deal so much damage that the negation is overpassed. If a boss can kill you in 3 hits, they don't mind if they need 3'5

The best defense is to just not get hit in the first place.

My first char in ER was a light-roller build and while bosses were easier, common mobs were a real problem, because every exile in Stormveil could 3-shot or 4-shot her. My latter chars wear armor up to medium load and now I barely ever heal before boss fights: common mobs deal far less damage, and whatever they manage to do is taken care of by regeneration talisman. There are special mobs, of course, that can still be deadly if I stop paying attention which is a thing when one relies on armor too much.

It does...you're still in the sandbox tho. Carian Armor looks great, but has garbo negation. You're meant to get hit maybe once and then heal.

Wait tll you level up (Vig) and find better talismans and armor...you can easily get 50 - 60 physical with all types of buffs and even higher elemental.

I did a one-to-one test against a basic Raya Lucaria Soldier. First hit from a standard charging slash, I had the worst negation possible with no armor, Radagon's Soreseal and Marika's Scarseal giving me damage negation of -26. I took an even 150 damage. Second try from the same attack, I had as much negation as possible at this point, Full Carian Knight Armor with the Dragoncrest Shield Talisman and no Sore/Scarseals giving me negation of around 30. I took around 87 damage.

That's a difference of nearly 60 damage negation! Just over 1hp per point of negation. So basically it's negligible throughout the entire game until I have insanely high negation from end-game armor that sacrifices all mobility, especially when for most of the game I've been dealing in only increments of 2 or 3 points. I'm better off with a bigger health pool and/or not getting hit.

I play as a fast, evasive character and my only real desire is just not getting one-shot by bosses. If I have the ability to survive a single hit and heal back to max HP, then I'm good. Problem is, so far if a boss is going to kill me in one hit, they're still going to do so regardless of how much armor I'm wearing.

We need more points on the graph. Without the exact formulae we cannot assume that damage negation is linear or that it is the same for every foe in the game.

doesn't work well if you in ng+ if you want have so much damage reduction go for faith build and use some heavy armor.

Elemental damage negation is totally noticeable. Equip on the drake talismans and cast the corresponding incanctation and you can easily take hits from, say, Fire Giant or Placidusax that would pulverise you otherwise.
You're simply not meant to stand there and take 5+ hits from enemies appropriate to your level.

As far as I can tell the numbers are percentages - 20 damage negation means you take 80% of the base damage instead of 100%. It matters a lot less with regular enemies (who deal pretty low damage anyway) but you notice it a lot with bosses like the Draconic Tree Sentinel that do slow but REALLY powerful hits.

The Soreseals/Scarseals are BASICALLY worth it if you get a percentually greater HP boost than the amount of damage negation you lose, but keep in mind that the effect is much more noticeable with bosses than trash mobs.

Damage negation is mostly for fighting normal mobs, and you should combine it with some sort of regen for maximum effect.
