they're both heavily combat oriented games but monhuns singular gameplay loop is "kill monster to kill BIGGER monster"
if you're looking for an rpg, elden ring, if your looking for a game you can pick up, play for like an hour or with some friends, then monhun.
But, the only game that deserves GOTY every single year since 1997 is Final Fantasy 7.
If you like exploration, elden ring
Difficulty-wise, early game elden ring is harder than early game monster hunter, but in world specifically, endgame is more difficult than endgame elden ring imo.
If you are looking to co op, monster hunter all the way, its just cleaner, has lobby system.
Visually elden ring all the way
Storywise its much of a muchness.
Aside from World though most MH titles have been on the PSP or 3DS, though the Switch does have Generations Ultimate and Rise (which is also on other consoles/PC).
