Can it still run at 8GB Ram?
Can Elden ring still run at 8GB Ram despite the minimum requirements saying it need 12GB Ram or will i experience FPS drops

EDIT: so this discussion keeps getting comments on and off now, but i'd like to state that i now have 32GB RAM, RTX 4070 and an Intel Core I7 13700K, so there's no need on really posting here now, anyone that comes by, i don't have 8GB RAM anymore and i upgraded my PC a ton

It's possible, I've played before, but it's better not to open any applications, otherwise the game will slow down a bit.

I wouldn't recommend it if your system doesn't meet the requirements. I have 32 GB of ram and a 1600 series GPU and it was audibly taxing my PC in a way that God of War and Horizion Zero Dawn didn't.

You can always buy and try during the refund window. Rush through the starting section so you get to the open world part and see how your PC does. I highly recommend going East on the map as those areas have fog, swamps, etc that will give you a good test for whether the PC can handle it. (You would normally go North and West from the start, East is a harder zone, but has GPU intense weather and water features.

The the game will start and run with only 8GB of RAM so long as the Windows Page File is active, but you should expect sudden crashes and unexpected exits to desktop due to Windows closing the game when it runs out of available memory.

The bigger problem is that many PCs with only 8GB of RAM are often paired with a weak CPU and GPU. The CPU in particular needs to be fairly beefy and modern (good IPC and clockspeed). RAM needs to be able to provide sufficient bandwidth as well or else you may encounter stuttering. A RAM speed of 3000MT/s or higher running in dual channel is recommended. Always buy and install RAM in pairs!

Not recommended, 8GB is considered close to minimum specification even on entry level. Even 16 is not enough for gaming on demanding titles or modded games.

I mean I have played Uncharted, RDR2, Cod MW2 and BF2042 on 8GB Ram and I didn’t experience much problems

Depends on what else you have open (or need to have open) in the background. You plan on using recording/streaming software while gaming? You also have to take the overhead into consideration, you know, for the sheer heft that Windows itself adds. Presumably, you can get Windows to run somewhat leaner if you did found a 3rd party utility to kill all but the most important background tasks and telemetry BS that Windows usually does. If you have a spare SSD lying around, you could probably try to find a way in Windows to use it as a place to store your SWAP (ie. virtual memory space)... much faster than back in the day, when we stored it on spinning hard disks.

If you have a high speed CPU it will probably run fine. Otherwise you will likely see framerate drops. 8gb is kinda low for gaming these days.

While this game doesn't use much more than 6GB of physical memory and instead heavily utilized virtual memory (a "page" or "swap"-file on your much slower hard drive) to a point, where it will just crash without one or if it runs out of disk space, 12GB minimum sounds about right, considering some of the background programs you may be running in the background (Steam, driver control panels, Discord, etc) and of course the operating system itself. Though, realistically it's more like 16GB, since 12GB memory setups were never that common.

Surely 16gb is cheap enough on Ebay these days? Just throw some in your system if you're on a desktop. If you're using a laptop, that's still something that can be upgraded, but it's likely your system would be too weak still. I'd make sure you're hitting cpu and gpu minimums. But 8gb is likely to be fine so long as you're not running chrome etc in the background. A lot of the time recommended specs are just based around common configurations and having enough wiggle room rather than what will actually run.

In the US it is. In most other countries not so much.

I played it on a laptop i7-770hq, gtx 1050 and 8gb ram. Lowered the resolution (and obviously low graphic settings for most of them) and never got any specific issues, except Leyndell which was almost impossible to play. When I'm there I turn off motion blur and DoF and solved baiscally every problem.
Yeah, with all my settings and such I usually joke that it's like playing on Gameboy Color, but if you don't care about graphics, it's no problem.
