if you're lucky maybe someone made a mod to replace them with something else, who knows. check on nexusmods. but using mods precludes you from playing online.
that's besides the point, if someone has a phobia they just can't find them fun no matter what.
The first time I saw them I had to alt f4. The second time .. it was okay since I knew where they are and they dont surprise you. Having a big smacky hammer or OP attacks to get rid of them fast helps.. since then... they aren't a big deal anymore. It really depends on the design and how well you can bear it.
For example.. like I said. I cant bear satisfactory spiders. But spiders and freya in ds 2 are okay.
To fight my own phobia I played grounded until I was able to smack every single spider there is. Since then.. insects in video games arent a big deal anymore unless they are so disgustingly designed like in satisfactory with the eratic movement etc.
The only thing that still scares the ♥♥♥♥ out of me is underwater stuff. Subnautica crabsquids.. these snakes.. reaper and such but thats ofc not the topic.
Just saying.. playing something like grounded could help you overcome it.
In literal terms yes. Might be different to someone with arachnophobia. I dunno, I don't have it.

There's giant ants and even worse, giant ants that have wings, make realistic noises and even have queens with giant eggs. They also have a grab where they impale you with their stingers, so definitely yucky and probably realistic enough to trigger phobias, I'd again recommend checking images to make sure. These ants are only in optional areas though.
Exposure therapy works for some people, yes--but they have to be willing participants. Games seem like a safe environment to practice such exposure (really, it's a good idea), but if the person suffering the phobia isn't ready to confront it, it won't do any good.
If you can tackle it with exposure therapy, it has not been 'that bad' to begin with, not judging phobias of others here, it can still be pretty bad.
But the point is, it can be so bad that such a therapy is counter productive and even harmful.
I'm in a weird place in between - it's so bad that exposure therapy is out of the question (as diagnosed by several therapists), but I'm cognisant enough of the circumstances and depth of it that I can compensate in surprising ways.
For example, the Elden Ring hands were a bit triggering at first due to their movements (and the fact that it's mostly poor lighting where they appear doesn't help), but they are, well, hands, and I can reconcile those facts and deal.
I love the "Earth Defense Force" games, which are in large parts about giant insects and yes, several types of giant spiders, and I can just deal with that - probably due to the slight cartoonish appearances and movements and over the top c-movie feel of it all.
By contrast, I needed to use the "spiders to scorpions" mod in Conan Exiles, or I just couldn't deal - and I have tried.
Yes, scorpions that behave and sound like Conan spiders are fine somehow. The actual in game spiders are super ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ NOT.
In real life, I can look at spiders all day, no matter the type or size, provided they stay in place.
The moment they start moving though, my brain literally shuts down or misfires in ways I do not want to get into here.
Long story short, it depends on the individual if and how such a therapy can work and how the symptoms of the phobia present themselves under what circumstance.
