How did this win GOTY?!
I mean it was ok - graphics looked good but it's not exactly a deep or complex game, and it has a terrible UI. I finished it in 40 hours, and had no interest in playing it ever again. Does it have amazing PVP or something? Genuinely surprised as I think many indie games have been a lot more interesting and original. This is basically just a reskin of previous Souls games...

Competition was really weak this year. Cat sim, bad Elden Ring, movie game about dad.

Its not the game's fault you used a guide that carried you to the end credits in 40 hours.

The game defeated you and your incompetent company ;)

Because they took some risk to put it as an open world instead of just doing what they usually do with DS,BB & sekiro. Also Gow won 2018 goty, so yup Elden ring well deserve it.

Loser, you must be really braindead by finishing the game in 40 hours

Politics, but not like US politics.

Game reviewers want to show the world, we like hardcore games so much we will sell our integrity to make it game of the year.

40 hours? I doubt it unless you cheated your way through by looking up where the bosses are instead of playing organically. You didn't play... you skipped to the end of the book and read he last few pages.
This year wasn't that great for games. And if you manage to get a handle on the controls and timings (I'm still irritated by how dodging felt so off in the start), it's nice experience for fans of From's previous games.

And it is probably the best use of an open-world in the past 5 years or so. Discovering things is organic and fun.

But if you didn't like the Souls series, you're not going to like this.

Why? I don't think I took too long to get through it on my only play-through. It's literally just a case of going from boss to boss to open the next area, killing the trash in between. There's no quests, or story to speak of that I ever saw. It's "open world" but you kill the bosses in the right order to get to the next part of the world...
