What do I have to do to be unbanned?
Elden Ring was my first Fromsoft game, and my first ever Soulslike game. I got carried away cheating runes on my first playthrough and got banned. Rightly so, shame on me.
But now I have deleted all characters and created a new one with which I do not cheat. Is that enough to remove the ban, or do I really need to delete my save files to be sure? Does anyone have experience with this?
I would hate to delete my honest level 100 character. But if I have to, I will.

you have to play for 2 more hours with another character. Bans here are temporary and not as harsh as in DS series

I deleted the characters yesterday and have since played more than 2 hours with the new one. So far no unbanning.

they normally tell you how long your ban is.

I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Just wanted to play through it quickly and forget about it. Who would have guessed that the game would excite me so much. Now I would like to play PvP, but unfortunately I am banned.

Should you be banned with your current account, try creating an alt account and set it up with your main one via steam family sharing.
This way you will have to start over, as save files are bound to the respective steam profile they were created with, but you will be able to participate in online play again:

It says 180. However, my concern is whether it is enough to delete the characters, or do I need to delete the save files completely.

Ok thanks, I thought it was enough to create a new Steam account, but as I understand it I need to play under a different Windows user. I don't want to do that. To get back to my original question. Is it enough to delete the characters in the game, or do I really need to delete the save files.
Does anyone have experience with this?

Your entire Steam account is banned, not just your save files; even deleting absolutely everything isn't going to lift the ban. If your ban is temporary then you can only wait until it's lifted naturally, otherwise there's no way to get a ban removed. The only way to play online at this point is to make a new Steam account and play on that instead.

Yes, the ban is temporary. My point is that I want to prevent the ban from being extended. And how do I prevent that. Is it enough to delete the characters or do I have to delete the save files?

In Dark Souls 3, you used to have to delete the save file (in your appdata folder), not just the characters, because once the save is corrupted, there's no un-corrupting it. You would start a new save, like accepting the EULA all over again, and they would auto-unban you after a couple weeks. Then later, they made it so you had to write Bamco an email to get unbanned. That was all on Dark Souls though, not really sure how it works with ER.

When you find out, you should revive this thread and tell us what worked for you, like if you had to delete your save or could keep it, just for general knowledge. My guess is you'll have to delete it, and play for a while on a brand new clean save to get the ban removed. Might also have to write an email to customer support, I don't know. Good luck.

Also, if you do end up having to delete your current save, make a copy of it first!

Bans are based on your Steam account..Not your save file. Starting a new character still is the same account. However the save has the cheats also. But getting rid of the cheats doesn't neccessarely get rid of the ban. Depends how bad your infraction was and how long they banned you. Also for sure you have to remove all mods.

Thank you. I have deleted the guilty characters. I'll continue playing with my new character for a few more days. If I don't get unbanned, I'll delete the save file. Will report how it turned out.

Thanks man I appreciate the feedback. I too would like to know what the process is for getting unbanned, I just want to avoid, well, the whole getting banned part of it lol.
