Lake of Rot - Immunity appears useless

HI guys, another day, another question:

Lake of Rot. When I stand in it, I get Scarlet Rot in literal seconds. All the guides say use this talisman, and this necklace etc etc, yet it seems that even with 500 Immunity, the rot takes me in seconds.

I can't get to any of the platforms really, and exploring is hopeless.

What am I missing?

Even with maxed out immunity rot will get you in the end. You are supposed to cure it.

Respec for it, then go back to your original build if you want after touching the grand cloister grace (consumables help but they are not a optimal optionl).

To add to the above, use the incantation slightly before your rot gauge is about to max out. This prevents a lot of the damage done (which is quite heavy in that area).

Also get the beast repellent torch. trust me, you'll want it.

The rot will always inflict you within seconds, but adding higher immunity will give you extra seconds to pull yourself onto dry land just before it hits.

If you're still struggling, increase your FTH stat to 12, go to the Church of Vows in Liurnia and head South-East to the Fire Monk camp nearby. Grab the incantation Flame, Cleanse Me. Heals rot and poison affliction for 12 FP and 15 HP.

No need to respec to cast Flame Cleanse me, wear the talisman Two Fingers Heirloom to raise your faith. Also allocate your flasks and go through the lake with a few Flasks of Cerulean Tears equiped.

Getting more proteccion against rot is meant for fights, you know, adding a few more hits before rot settles. The Lake of Rot, well, made that useless.

You can self-proc a weaker form of scarlet rot by rolling in the Lake of Rot and then stepping out to let the rot coating fill up your meter.

You can combine the weak rot with HP regen from incantations, crystal tears, the Blessed Dew talisman, and the Icon Shield for deep trips into the lake.

EDIT: Wording. The trick also works for poison swamps/caves.

This is how I deal with it, and it works very well. You basically inoculate yourself from the full effects of scarlet rot by having the weaker version take over. Then you can just run straight across the lake and only need a couple of flasks to reach the other side.

Anyways OP you will also need a rot cure for later in the Halightree (not going to say more to avoid spoilers).

Fortunately I have the torch with me already, and now I've ree-spec'd to throw a bit more into Faith and am using Flame Cleanse Me. Awesome.

If you get the Mushroom armor set it boosts your immunity. Once I got the Fire Cleanse Me incantation I didn't need it though.
