[SPOILER] Lore: Haligtree medallion

At Castle Sol, when arriving at the location of one half of the Haligtree medallion, you come upon a spirit that speaks:

"Lord Miquella, forgive me.
The sun has not been swallowed. Our prayers were lacking.
Your comrade remains soulless...
I will never set my eyes upon it now...
Your divine Haligtree..."

My question is about this mysterious comrade that remains soulless. Who do you think it might be?

The "sun" seems to be associated with the Erdtree? Though I've never heard it directly mentioned, and come to think of it I don't know if you can actually see the sun in the sky during the day. Symbolism revolving around the sun is conspicuously absent in this game so far...

No idea who the "comrade" could be though. Perhaps Godwyn, considering he is soulless (or whats become of him)? In fact he's the only one I know of who has no soul, but the body persists, whereas its typically the opposite with characters in this game.

Only mention I can think of is the description on Dung Eater's armor, but that's regarding the symbol. You can't see the sun itself, but you do see its effects (day/night, moving shadows). Just throwing that out there.

No idea who the "comrade" could be though. Perhaps Godwyn, considering he is soulless (or whats become of him)? In fact he's the only one I know of who has no soul, but the body persists, whereas its typically the opposite with characters in this game.

To my knowledge, Godwyn is the only confirmed named soulless being. Aside from being siblings, what other connection could there be though?

I think it refers to Mohg who stole Miquella's body from the Haligtree before it could mature. He was only able to steal the flesh and not the soul of Miquella, which remains in a dreamworld. Wouldn't be surprised if he appears in a DLC when he wakes. There was a lot of cut content about Miguella, like he is actually St.Trina the God of Slumber. He also had a Great Rune so I think he'll be back.

The Eclipse Shotel, found in the Church of the Eclipse, has a signature Skill that allows you to buff it with golden deathblight flame.

The symbol of the Eclipse is associated with the Mausoleum Knights, who have it printed on their shields. The Mausoleum Knights in turn are associated with death.
They are headless spirits who guard Walking Mausoleums, and they wield swords buffed with golden deathblight flame.

Golden deathblight flame is the signature ability of the Prince of Death, which is the still-living warped body of Godwyn.

Godwyn's soul was destroyed in the Night of the Black Knives. No other significant characters in Elden Ring are noted as being soulless.

Therefore, Godwyn has strong connections to the Eclipse, and is very much likely the soulless comrade mentioned in this passage.

- Godywn's closest brother by relation is Miquella, since they share Marika as the same direct parent.

I would say Godwyn and Miquella were on pretty good terms if Miquella were moved enough to create a memorial sword for him when he died. That would qualify as Miquella's "comrade."

But why would this spirit call Godwyn The Golden Miquella's "comrade?" If the Church of the Eclipse followers are connected to Godwyn, wouldn't they know that the two demigods were brothers? Why not say the word, 'brother' instead of 'comrade?'

Now that could be a mistranslation. Happens when translating Japanese to English sometimes. Also there's nothing to say they weren't comrades/brothers in arms.

Note that second meaning could imply they weren't actually related, but that's purely speculative.
