I didn't know about the teleportation, so i spent like 3 hours running around in Caelid.
The first 2 and a half hour was spent trying to get out of that damned rot swamp...
By the time i reached Limgrave i remembered i could have just teleported back.
I enjoyed every minute of it.
Gonna need a little bit more than that if you want to try for the conclusion that WP was supposed to be the starting area originally.
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this game is so much deeper than I thought.
You just can't make up this kind of stuff.
WP is basic and straightforward, Limgrave just seems a level up from it, in terms of layout, design, travel opportunities and variety.
What From has done is give you a big open world right from the start, where if you're just finding your feet you can stay in Limgrave, bump into the castle, then start exploring elsewhere if it's too challenging. If you're feeling brave you head over to Caelid, immediately identifiable as a dangerous place for you by the way everything is red. If the open world is a bit too much you will just follow the road instead of cutting across the countryside, leading you right to WP.
So you start in Limgrave, are immediately faced by a significant challenge, have a clear (and literal) path down to an easier area that doesn't lead anywhere except for back to Limgrave, at which point you're now prepared to tackling what previously felt like an overwhelming challenge. Now when you're able to take down the challenges in the castle it feels good, like you've earned it. Overall, a much better experience than starting someplace relatively easy, clearing it out, then moving on to the next area which will now also feel not particularly challenging.
Limgrave -> Stormveil -> Limgrave -> Peninsula -> Liurnia -> Caelid -> Screaming back to limgrave -> Stormveil again -> ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
