Lacks the speed and variety in mobility.
Strength is prolly on par with some. Kinda low end for fantasy anime tho.
Durability is really hard to judge; prolly at least somewhere in the same ballpark. I think this is where they come closest via making arguments from the forces endured and survived when hit by very large enemies (ancient dragons, magma wyrms, Rykard, etc).
Powers are very meh compared to most examples. Tarnished prolly isn't even building tier with the exception of like two incredibly slow spells (ex: MoA).
Lacks any form of OCP-no mind control, almost no teleporting, no instant death outside of like one weapon, no special immunities, runs on finite resources, no flight, no intangibility, etc.
The real issues are that the Tarnished is just too damn slow. Like, they move at the speed of an average human. Pretty much any marvel character, let alone anime, could run rings around them unless they pull out Bloodhound's Step or Torrent, and even then a good few are faster in traversal and almost all are still faster in combat applicable speed.
If a tarnished "beats" the game, so in lore terms goes through the whole cycle of it's story and wins all the battles at lvl 150, id also say this tarnished [999] is roughly 6.666... times stronger than he was at his prime.
Obviously softcaps would be a problem but then id argue movie heroes are unfair on that matter since their "numbers" are basically nonexistent and completely subjective i.e. the classic superman killing lois if he would truly rescue her from a falling building while grabing her at high speed. She'd basically die, I think we all heard that argument or similar things before.
At least in elden ring there's a set limit to falling damage, health bars and other power relations. Power is a number in elden ring and therefore can be measured.
If I'm to imagine a tarnished fighting those heroes I'd either translate their modern concepts into a plausible soulslike enemy, or make a less "number limited" version of a tarnished that'd fit more the super hero world specifically MCU, lest I start making impossivle comparisons like mickey mouse vs thor
So in the end I believe a 999 tarnished, or rather an overpowered one that would face heroes with all the tools and stupid ♥♥♥♥ he has access, like iframes and backstabs, using like 6 sets of weapons due to risiculous endurance, so he can have more flexibility at the fight.
And remember, batman or tony stark are powerless humans that are usually shown doing amazing stuff or fighting some OP enemies. That screams the same idea of soulslike protagonist to me. Raise from the mud and use cheese strats to beat the unbeatable, or be pure brute and well timed force to beat the unbeatable with honor.
......you're kidding right? All the different varieties and school of incantations and spells, various items able to mimic spells/incantations, the various weapons with somewhat ridiculous anime-esq moves, all the ashes of war which are also anime ridiculous, and the tarnished can summon superpowered spirit ashes on top of that...and you're claiming their powers are lackluster in comparison? And spoiler, with the right combination you can melt through ANY boss with little effort.
Clearly you don't do fun builds in this game lol
My latest build was a mage, and my first build was a dragon caster.
The Tarnished's spells are short ranged (~50 feet for most?), slow casting compared to most anime versions, consume a highly finite resource, and fail to cause any structural damage to trees or churches (both things that can be knocked over by large enemies, so we have an upper limit there).
Not useless, but a far cry from most mid-high tier anime.
He can survive being bitten and chomped multiple times in a row by a serpent with a head the size of a building
As we all know - Batman can win just about any fight given the amount of time he needs to prepare. Batman is also quite similar to the tarnished in a sense that he would be an INT/STR/END build that side-focuses DEX, so he would likely have some OK res., but nothing too crazy:
- Bleed would work, Catwoman has scratched bats a couple of times
- Frost may work, he has a flame resilient cape, but always needs to dodge Mr.Freeze
- Madness... well Bruce/Batman is prone to being absorbed in his negative thoughts, so super effective
- Lightning would likely work also; the suit to my knowledge has never been able to absorb/disperse a huge shock
- Relies on others however for ALL Magic resistance
Additionally, he uses mostly Slashing focused weaponry (forearm blades, bat-o-rangs), while a more pugilistic fighting style (Blunt damage as mixed martial arts). He has high agility also, but almost NEVER move cancels (as in, anytime he is attacking or moving, the enemy always seems to hit him quite easily vs. him standing still).
Why does this matter? Because your best bet is a powerstanced RoB and Uchi with HF Stomp, off-handing a staff with Stars of Ruin and a Seal for Elden Stars/Rot Breath/Magma Breath.
Tarnished would need to start and go right for Batman (no side-quests to prevent him from pulling a Gideon and learning), then start with Elden Stars & Stars of Ruin to keep him moving, and follow up with some meme-tana attacks as they get closer together, then finish up with a Rot breath into Magma breath. Batman will have a re-breather for the Rot, but then hopefully is surprised by the magma.
Otherwise - there is now way. Everything else is too slow. And Anyone above Batman would likely blow the Tarnished out (Hulk would be like fighting Melania, but she is also fused with Godfrey and Rahdan)
