Unable to Meet Ranni?

I'll try to keep this question as spoiler-free as possible, but I'm trying to start Ranni's quest line, and I've reached her tower, but it's blocked off. I read a guide that said I needed to travel to Nokron and get an important item before I can through the barrier on the tower. I went there, found the chest, and it says "You are not destined to obtain this" or something close to that.

Where I'm at in my game:
I have 3 Great Runes Godrick, Rennala, and Radahan
I cleared the castle and reached Ranni's Rise
I've helped Blaidd with his gaol issue

One thing that may have been an issue is that I never met Renna at the early stages of my game. I was doing too much exploring and apparently broke that event. I had to buy my bell and wolves from the Roundtable Hold.

Is there any chance that lack of meeting wrecked my chances for the rest of my play through?

Yeah that happens during the meeting. I rushed getting there during my second playthrough because I borked Selvius' questline and i was running a mage, so i wanted that talisman. So it does get locked for some time.

As I recall, it happens when I haven't finished all the conversation with all the characters in the tower.

Edit: if I remember correctly, you to ranni, then the people downstairs, then you have to talk to ranni again.

Ranni first appeared to me at the First Church of Marika (or where is the Kale merchant) on my first play thru but she didn't visit me at the church in Journey 2 or 3 - expected behaviour?

However, her tower was always opened to me on 3 runs.

I am pretty sure the op has mixed up Ranni with Renna. He may admit it or not. But this is the issue many players have faced, no shame at all. But just please don't take my replies as spams.

There is a tower of the same area actually blocked from entering before meeting Ranni. I also mixed it up with Ranni's tower too.

And a bunch of players travel to the first tower they see after defeating Loretta without knowing there are more than 1 towers in the area. Other than that, I never encountered anything that blocked me from entering Ranni's tower. It did block me from leaving it once though.

Yes, first tower is north and 2nd rise is south which you can only enter midway thru her quest line.

i would say no, because i met her on my second playthrough.

Do you remember if it was night time and did you rest at the grace?

Edit: Iirc, she visited me in NG before I defeated Godrick but I defeated Godrick before re-visiting the church in Journeys 2 & 3.

i teleported right after meeting melina. couldn't tell you what time it was before the teleport, but it was night when i got there. looking at the wiki, it seems that's intentional.

Edit: it's probably worth noting that anything i mention will be pre-1.04, so things may have changed.

Rogier is very important. You must thoroughly explore Stormveil Castle and then talk to him. That will progress his quest and he will start talking about Ranni and will tell you to go see her.

In fact, I still bump into Renna's Rise now, whenever I want to visit Ranni.

I'm going to put my reply into a spoiler for others, but here we go: You do realize that Renna is Ranni, right? She tells you that she hid her identity when you first met her at the church (if you meet her).

Thats why people are always blocked from entering when they first go to Renna's Rise.

Her tower (Ranni's Rise, not Renna's) is always open AFAIK. She just might not be there if you aggroed or killed Blaidd (he actually doesn't truly die until his quest is completed, but if you did do this for whatever reason, you can request absolution and he'll be alive again).

Same thing if you aggroed Iji (I think he actually will die if you kill him though, assuming he's not one of the npcs that just ghost away). Though Iji won't be there if you aggroed or killed Blaidd earlier. Even if you spoke to Rogier to the point he tells you to go there, she won't be there until you request absolution.

The correct tower has a few wolves in front of it. If it doesn't you're at the wrong one.
