Any point to armor alteration?
So I have yet to find a decent purpose. I thought maybe it was for cosmetics, but even with the 2nd needle (golden I think it is?), just the cosmetic options all...well suck. And stats-wise it doesn't do much except lower weight--but also stats.

So there's no benefit aesthetically wise because they all look like crap altered so far. There's no stat benefit. Is there something I'm missing here, or did From just screw the pooch on this part of the game?

Fashion. Lower weight, and stats. How many more points do you need? Those are the two possible ones.

Except the fashion sucks, and lowering weight at the cost of lowering stats is seldom a good option (and I say this as a person who uses lighter gear).

So yeaaaaah.

You are going to argue that looks aren't subjective? I like quite a few altered armors and headpieces.

Same. Tassels > Capes

Dislike capes, they obscure the form from the back, and the back is mostly what we see. Also highly impractical in actual combat, they get caught on everything.

You could lower the weight of something that you could not previously wear due to equip load restrictions. And while the defenses of that might be similar between your un-altered lighter setup and the altered heavier setup, you get to wear a different look. I used this to wear the Crucible Tree Set.

I like capes. Capes are cool. But not on everything. A lot of heavier armors look nice without a cape. Also, I like that dress nox swordstresses wear. By default it's got tons of flowy cloth hanging from it, which is also nice. But altered it gives you this sleek skin-tight dark armor, great for some assasin-y or thief type of looks. I love confessor's armor with and without a cape. Just one example of what I've used. Not to mention how many helmets look interesting altered. Helmet from eccentric set you get from Sellen's questline is so unusual altered, and it can be matched for some very interesting fashion. Most people don't even know how it looks altered, bet.
