would be nice of messages could be disabled for those that find it immersion breaking.
i dont get what you mean with lore in this context, lore is lore and player messages have nothing to do with it

you can disable them but you will disable multiplayer also, so if you don't plan to play multi on any given day then just go to web settings in the game and turn everything off. You will play like normal, get achivements and all just no multi/invasions, no bloodstains and no messages. I switch between offline and online often, it's refreshing.

my first playtrough is always offline to avoid spoilers from bloodstains and messages

When people think back on Dark Souls, or Elden Ring. The Message Spam on the ground, will be brought up in the reminiscing. There is Lore in the Game. And there is the lasting impression it made out here in the real world. That is also Lore.
it exists but its not lore, maybe you call it that, but its not
I call it that because it is. Because it's true. You need open that box. The sad part is that it also does in fact make up some of the Lore in game. Because I see a serious lack of it in most videos I watch to try to convince me to buy this game.

The way I understand it. The popularity of this game seems to revolve around everyone seeing a giant glowing Tree in the landscape. That's the 30 second Hook moment and you all ride that out to 200+ hours.

I'm fascinated by it almost.

Make Giant Glowing tree = Profit.

messages bleeding trough to other peoples worlds is part of the lore(at least in ds), the contents themselves is not. a random statue or flower is more likely to be part of the lore.
you are bringing in a definition of lore that has no context with game lore.

I've spent 450 hours on PC (40 on ps5) just staring at the tree, please send help.

It is a bit like a waste land of messages. While they can not be removed, you prob do not have to see them while offline? Can't confirm.

Otherwise it's not so bad imp, and a nice feature that everyone can do. Sadly I've seen mine removed constantly, so def some targeted stuff going on. They likely remove them large amounts at some point perhaps.

This is one of many reasons this game is just a Meme, and doesn't deserve it's popularity.

In the off-chance other developers are looking at this for inspiration on how to make their game more popular. DON'T!. This game and most everything about what it contributes to the gaming world is cancer. It's one redeeming value is how it draws in bird brains who hop on bandwagons because they see 100,000 meme reviews and want to desperately be part of something big and throw in their meme review too.

To be honest, I'm sick of hearing about this game outside of this game.

It encouraged me to come look at the state of the forum, and I can't say I'm not surprised by some of the topics proving my point.

And what games do you consider great or better.... Oh wise one. :steamfacepalm:

I.... I don't think you know what the word "lore" means. Are you by chance an xQc viewer or at least a Twitch viewer or Fortnite player?
Lore is the story and explanation of events in history of a game. So, everything that is in the complete game in its base form (so, basically, the game at your first interaction and in offline mode) is part of the lore; everything that is added after that is not part of the lore.

Players can't change the story or the knwoledge in-game: the tortoise in ER are tortoise, they're not dog because they're called like that in messages. So, no, I suggest you to revise your "lore" concept. Also because, if the messages are lore, it would mean that everytime you play and you face messages from different person you're facing a different story... And that's not true
When I do a retelling of my past experiences with Souls games, the messages on the ground never come up. I may remember them but it's not important enough to bring up as a part of explaining Souls games, so saying the writings on the ground are part of Souls game's lore is a bit of a stretch.

I think that's kind of a you-problem. Why would you even come here when you don't have the game, aren't interested in the game, and are upset when ppl talk about the game?

I have not once ever thought of the messages while reminiscing with friends lol, it's always:
- DarkSidePhil and his antics
- Demons Souls being BS with some wacky gear, like the level draining hand and the gear destroyer Scraping Spear
- Moonlight Greatsword kept getting good, BBorne topped all, then it is a let-down since design wise
- This scrub died to Pinwheel and shouldn't be taken seriously
- Ravelord Nito
- Invasion antics/Anor Londo hide-and-seek especially cause of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ RAFTERS lol
- Bino-boosting in Dark Souls 2 was funny as hell, and a sweet speed run trick
- What was the infitie souls glitch in that one?
- Dragon Form in 3 though....
- Oreo and Smores Space Jam remix video typically pulled up once

Think that is all of it :praisesun:
Edit : Elden Ring also would be
- What do you mean you haven't beaten X yet
- Favorite spell/incant?
- Thank Gwyn I can finally summon dudes and it isn't a cloud of black/magic orbs that fly into an enemy

To me, being able to disable the messages would increase the element of surprise and discovery. Reaching areas where there's 10x the messages as other areas makes it obvious there's a boss fight ahead, or some important area coming up. Seeing the ghosts of other players, however, I do enjoy that aspect. Same for any of the Dark Souls installments.
