Why is the soundtrack so bad compared to DS3?

yeah, it's nowhere near as good as dark souls 3 unfortunately.

the only boss theme that stood out to me in elden ring was ancestor spirit.

Because it's generic Dark Fantasy theme for the most part.

There are some good ones like Leyndell, the Deer God and what the merchants play.

People love the Godskin Duo ost too, but, it's no Gael theme that's for sure.

Lichdragon Fortissax has a pretty good phase 2 theme, too bad his phase 2 often fails to trigger or you kill him too early.

Haven't found the right bosses? Admittedly most dark souls boss tracks never stood out much to me, but there was always a few in each game I remember very vividly (midir, gael, fume knight, sir alonne, ivory king (most epic theme ever), stray demon, Gwyn). You just need to find the right bosses.

The ancestral spirit boss in Nokron was pretty memorable for me. So far its the only one though lol

personally i prefer elden rings music over dark souls 3, sure dark souls 3 has some good ones like slave knight gael but i overall just find myself enjoying elden rings music more

Yeah, I think it's at least very fitting for the region. That's why I mentioned it.
