TIP: Do NOT fight Radahn before doing Ranni's Quest
This is as spoiler-free as I can make it.

If you beat Starscourge Radahn before doing Ranni's quest, an important character will end up not being available to you. You can free this important character from captivity, but then he seems to completely disappear, even if you go talk to his captor. Because of this, you can't complete Ranni's quest.

Having read several posts about this on Reddit, there doesn't seem to be a workaround. If anyone knows how to fix it, it would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, if you screw-up like I unknowingly did, be prepared to consider starting over.

EDIT:
You apparently can still complete her quest, but you will miss some dialog. You may or may not miss items, that is unclear, but posters further down in this thread say you don't.

Well you sound a bit too criptic. I just beat Radahn before visiting Ranni at her tower and everything went smoothly to the end of the quest.

Use the spoiler tag if you need, but it is not clear what is blocking you.

He normally disappears until you finish Ranni's quest. This has nothing to do with Radahn.

technically Radhan is mid game so should be done later anyway

Apparently i'm supposed to meet Blaidd at Siofra River, but he isn't there, and wasn't at Ranni's rise. I did free him from Evergaol or whatever it's called, but it's still not happening.

Perhaps you can still complete her quest, but I'm not sure how much of it had to do with Blaidd and would there be anything I missed (important gear/items)
...

If I can still complete her quest without him, that would at least be good news, and I'll do it right in another playthrough after this one. Let me know, and I'll edit OP accordingly.

I don't think you miss anything. Everything you get from him is there at the end as usual.

Basically you just skipped few dialogs.

Some people (like myself) just run around doing random stuff most of the time, and aren't following the story quests closely. That said, it doesn't mean I don't want to be able to get it all eventually.

Agreed some stumble into the fight others rush to it with all bosses. Game is made to explore the map is massive. Think i have pretty much everything open now to go help others

Cool, I edited the post, and it seems I completed the quest as well.
I looked up guides for that quest because I got sidetracked and couldn't remember where I was supposed to go. All the guides I looked up pointed to someone that wasn't there to start the quest.

So far I understand what can miss by doing this is also effect in Redmane castle

If you do Ranni’s quest first it will activate the festival, and I guess this disable the misgottenxcrucible mini boss fight before radahn

Other wise have beat that first and even if you do and haven’t done Ranni’s quest(may be other factors but think strictly tied to her’s) festival hasn’t started and Radahn servant dude just tells you wait for stars to align(which think is a hint towards ranni’s quest)

I got there first but had to back track ranni’s quest to actually fight radahn, so I guess if want most gameplay, go there fight duo boss, go back do ranni’s quest then return to fight radahn

I talked to the guy on the wall and he started the festival/fight (I assume are one in the same) after I talked to him. I hadn't even gone to 3 sisters yet.

you arent missing ANYTHING of importance by killing radahn first.
there is 2 triggers for the radahn fight to even become available.
one is simply DOING rannis quest till the point it REQUIRES you to defeat radahn.
the other is simply entering the altus plateau by WHATEVER means. doesnt matter if you go trough the iron maiden to mt gelmir or use the lift or defeat the dragon in the cave. all of this triggers the festival.

you cannot miss rewards this way aside a gesture and some low tier smithing stones. so you lose nothing of importance. some gear is available later but its not missed.

the only thing to be aware of is seluvis questline. if you want to do that DO NOT LOOT THE FINGERSLAYER BLADE in nokrom. as that WILL kill him no matter what. looting the blade is the trigger for his death. this is unavoidable. if you want certain specific puppets or the magic scorpion charm this is important. you can stall rannis quest here infinitely by simply not looting the blade.

the major 3 major effect points for most npc quests are these :

going to altus region by whatever of the 3 methods used. this affects ALOT of npcs.
doing the cardinal sin (burning the tree) is the other major trigger. NOT defeating fire giant. saying yes to melina is the trigger.
most npc questlines will fail or the npcs will outright die if not progressed till the correct point before doing this.
the 3rd is killing rykard and this mainly effects all npcs in volcano manor. make sure you did everything here before taking on rykard. beeing warped to his bossroom is fine. killing him is the trigger.
killing godrick is another trigger but only for 3 npcs and you really arent missing much here by doing this out of order.

I maybe missed 90% of the quest lines because I was hopping all over the place running into brick walls.. ended up getting damn near to the end game, and all the npcs in my world are either dead or have depression

so I started a new character, took my time, (followed some guides) and now I'm really taking the time to try and seek everything out properly. I realized I didn't even explore a good half of stormveil on my first play through.

Anyway because i was rushing through places and popping off (sometimes the npcs were invisible, but that glitch has fixed itself), I missed a step in Blaid's questline to meet him in Sofria, but I found him later on in castle Redmane. He even mentioned missing our last meeting, but I was able to complete Ranna's questline regardless.
