Are Ranni and Melina the same person? (spoilers)

I think they must have split after Ranni killed herself, you can see the burned corpse on top of Liurnia divinity tower.

Then the eye thing, they have opposite eyes closed. They are both related to black knife assasins.

In the frenzied flames ending, it seems Ranni and Melina are back to being one person again and have both of their eyes open.

There is also some evidence to indicate they are not the same person, for example Ranni's tattoo is that of the death curse symbol. Melina's tattoo is the frenzied flame symbol.

They are different characters with different names, but in this game nothing is as it seems, multiple times characters have tricked us or pretended to be something they are not.

Ranni's body is dead and rotting and trapped in a doll. Plus Melina's tatoo looks more like a crow's feet. Maybe she serves the bird god.

The one obvious thing that connects them is that when you summon Melina she fights in the same way as the black knife assassins. We will probably get more to the lore in the DLCs whenever they come out. She could be a black knife that betrayed Ranni, who knows.

She's not a black knife. She uses order incantations.
She's also the only daughter of Marika that actually wants to save her mother. "For spoiler reasons that's as far as i'll go."

regarding the tattoos, I watched this youtuber put melina's face over ranni's spirit's face and they matched perfectly, and the tattoos actually made a full picture and looked like a claw

They aren't the same person, but definitely do have a connection.

They are both Empyreans born from Marika.
