The worlds are "apparently", not in the same universe
BUT MY MAN PATCHES DOESN'T THINK SO:

also, remember:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=e0l73vAlEBQ
"In the age of ancients. The world was unformed. Shrouded by fog.
A land of grey crags, archtrees, and everlasting dragons."
We see the ♥♥♥♥ out of those in Elden Ringalingading like EVERYWHERE.
So, this is my theory, the lands are loosely connected, like there's dimensional warp stuff going on, we see this even in-game. The "Fire" in dark souls may be some kind of spell, making use of different power, distant from outer gods, maybe it is frenzied flame since Izalith bed of chaos was attempting to harness or create "The First Flame" And even on the wiki the fire color looks more golden and intense, similarly,
Oh wow:

"Bed of Chaos" = removal of all that separates and divides.
The one thing missing from Elden Ring may be the "dark" element. This may have been some outer god who could stand against the might of the frenzied flame 's First fire. But for all we know, the fire of the first flame destroys them all or keeps them suppressed, to a great extent.
My theory is the Darkness element is the mature form or power of Godwyn the golden, but not sure.
Also no, age of duskborn is the true prequel ending. Godwyn becomes nito.
Maybe not alternate dimensions, I thought as well at one point but what it maybe Millions and Millions of years apart. Like Eldenring several million years before dark souls and millions of years between dark souls games. Easy to assume since it is the same world in the DS games after many ages of fire, possibly countless ages.
My theory was the darkness, fog, ash, and trees after everything was burned by the frenzied flame.
Remember the Finger Maiden set out to kill the Frenzied Lord because we unlocked destined death, death of the flame, darkness.
I hope future DLC will show us more on this. I think you're right.
Yeah, that comment was really some joke reference to another post.
I think they're is a connection. Not sure with Demon's Souls.
I mean they are separate universe if you consider Elden Ring a separate IP. However I think there is more to this than we realize. Many of these games have similar themes and minor details which could create the other games of Soulsborne.
I personally like to imagine its a mindgame that the writers are constantly playing with us, only they know the truth. Because of this they are able to continue a franchise without actually requiring the stories to obviously connect despite the hints which suggest otherwise.
I know developers are always implementing Eastereggs in their games, but my logic is if its referenced it exists in the game, and if it exists in the game it is canon to some degree. Best examples are Patches (which exists in many of the Soulsborne games even this one), and the Shield of Want from DS2 which is also in DS3.
