Whats the deal with Rebirth?
Is there any reason it appears to be limited per playthrough? Also can other players drop me the larval tear i need to perform a rebirth?

I figured it would be the same way as dark souls 2 where you can farm them from a specific location. I don't see any reason to make these a limited item.

You cannot trade tears.

Also, you can respec like ~20 times per playthrough. You REALLY don't need more than that. If you do, just go to NG+ and farm more tears. Having builds would be entirely pointless if you could just infinitely respec. It means you have to commit to your build.

There's no reason at all to have infinite respecs.

You can farm them in DS2?

For pvp it would be great to have infinite respecs so you can try different builds without having to go through 100+ hours just to try out a weapon that turns out not to be good.

Again, you have almost TWENTY respecs per playthrough. That is PLENTY to find something you like.

just back up your save with some tears and you have infinite respecs :praisesun:

Maybe for you it is. I respecced a couple times with my squishy mage build during the campaign to make certain boss battles a little easier and then back again to the squishyness. When I started doing PVP I tried out a few more builds. Went back to the usual setup then realized I didn't really need the moonlight greatsword and could move those points from strength into something else. Now I have like, six tears left and am afraid to use them.

That would be great if there's less than 20 possible combinations but when people do this they generally aren't just looking for A general combination they like, they are looking for THE one combination that may theoretically be what they are after so it may take multiple respecs just to test a theory only to find out its not so good and have to go through it all again chasing another possibility.

The tears don't drop infinitely from those big cannon balls?

Just start a new character. I guarantee you will be pvp ready in like 2 or 3 hours tops.

nope. Just once. I killed one before it dropped from the ceiling and the tear landed where I couldn't reach it. I cried real tears

Ok, so some people are building slow and steady and need 20 respecs to figure out their builds sure - but do you really need more than 20 per playthrough?

This is like saying, that in 20 attempts at creating a good build, you still do not have the pieces figured out to beat the game...

I get PvP is a thing - and you would want to have builds for that - but I would argue this is the reason we also have 10 toon slots. Otherwise, I feel like disagreeing with this is to say we either should allow infinite respecs and go back to one toon slot, or having the potential of 200 respecs across 10 characters is plenty.

This is probably why Twinking is still an allowed thing - half of the good stuff doesn't require you to spend 70 hours to get. 20 maybe, but if you can't afford 20 hours to build up a PvP character, then it also speaks to us not needing multiple slots. Hell, I would almost argue that you should probably just copy-paste a build if you can't spend 20 hours to make a seperate PvPer.

And as someone else mentioned - save scumming is a thing to. Not great, but in ER it DOES also help you not get ♥♥♥♥♥♥ by the cloud save issue, so... win-win?

Why stop at 20 though? What's the harm in respeccing as many times as you want?
Captainn May 4, 2022 @ 12:51pm
Kind of an aside regarding your question but just save scum. Back up your save (look for a guide it's very simple) then rebirth. If you like it, great, stick with it. If it sucks, or you want to try it again for another reason, reload the save and you have your tear back. Just make sure you're fully progressed on that save so you don't risk losing whatever things you may have found after rebirthing/save scumming
Elazul May 4, 2022 @ 12:57pm
I agree it's dumb. There should be infinite respecs bought with runes at a high price. People are already telling you to backup your save which is save scumming/cheating. If you have to cheat to get around a game mechanic that is kind of a hint that it's bad game mechanic people don't like.
