Help? How do I use the Dark Moon Greatsword R2 Skill?

So....after charging up the blade, I can't get the damn R2 skill to fly straight at a locked on enemy. 50% of the time it flies off into the dirt in front of it.

I must be doing something wrong. Can anyone help me out here? How do I 'aim" the skill for lack of a better word?

Unlock, then move your camera into the floor* so you're looking up. It's pressing the right stick in on controller. You may have auto-lock on in the settings, take it off, it'll help

Hes free aiming without lock on

I rewatched a few of those shots, and he is definitelz not free aiming, either that or I have no idea what freeaiming is. In most of the shown footage the guy is clearly locked on to one target or antother.

I guess this is definitely what I asked for. Turning to the cesspit of Steams forums for help. Thanks for those who tried to help. It looks like the sword is just broken and doesn't aim for me at all.....I wonder if I can submit a bug report.

It only seems to aim correctly if I am standing on level ground, the position of the enemy doesnt matter.

Oh well a curiosity that will be gathering dust in my stash. Larval Tear, and back to Rivers of Blood Katana....

Seem like nobody have talked about it, even tons of guide. I have to find it myself. The most important part about using Darkmoon great sword is you have to Hold R2 for it to charge and shoot, it's hit harder, much more accurate and have much bigger range compare to tap R2. Not a single youtuber talk about it, they alway said press R2 and then it's bread and butter and that totally wrong, tap R2 is BS with ♥♥♥♥♥♥ accuracy and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ range.

Holding R2 make darkmoon surpass the Adula moon blade (Adula still cast faster) it can kneel bosses and big enemies with 2-4 holding R2 charge blade, i feel it's kinda like the original moonveil.

You can just let your ash summon agro boss and spam the charge R2 and the boss is down every now and then. I used to found the Darkmoon so trash, not like any guide and video, but after found out the charge attack, it's quite strong weapon to replace the moonveil as long as you can have space to cast the thing.

As someone that uses the DMGS regularly I can assure you it's aim is definitely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ when locked on and you're at a different elevation. It does not do a good job tracking at all. It's wonderful on a flat surface, but it's also probably the #1 reason I'll be ditching it as soon as I can find something for sure better that I want to build around. I'd recommend a jumping R2 instead if at a different elevation. Or get good at free aiming. Oh and make sure you're charging the attacks not tapping.

Is there an easy way to do that through steam or do I need third party software. The charged attack does seem to track a little better. But still, sneak up on an enemy literaly 5 feet behind him, but we are both on an incline. I charge it up, and the damn thing just flies over his head....

Wish I could record how terrible this is....I have now had it where it tracks, but just doesnt register a hit....this happens when the enemy is not "engaged" in combat....oh god....I can't believe that this weapon made it through testing. Or that so many seem to be using it without issue...

My biggest problem with the sword is that its charged attacks take too much stamina. Combine that with it only being single target and lower range then Adula's its pretty lacking.
Still it looks cool and Ranni and all that.

It has horrible tracking as everything in a game.
Going to Mordor and back for a sub par slow-butt weapon is pretty disheartening.

Afaik Steam doesn't have any video recording feature. Most people have Nvidia so with that I'd recommend Shadowplay, if you have AMD software then Adrenalin would be your go to (I fall in the latter)

Watching it again, looks like I was mistaken, hes targeting the dragons head. Heads on giant enemies tend to force the aim upwards, they have their own hitbox, its still janky, sometimes you have to move closer in for it to move up, its a real pain.

However, I still free aim this weapon, its how its supposed to be used imo. Thats how you catch people moving with bloodhound step. Fxtralife didn't even make a real poise knight build, which is how this weapon has been traditionally used. Instead its a weird hybrid build that doesn't know what it wants to be.

And why would I lie, I'm telling you this is 100% what I do to do the same thing. I've played with the moonlight sword for many games and indeed this is how its been best used for a long time. If you don't want to suffer missing the head like n00b fxtra does (and he indeed struggles aiming even in the video) unlock, and free aim

It sounds like OP has the "manually aim attacks while locked on" setting enabled. Disable it.
