Light load rolling vs. medium load rolling?
Is there any difference, like there was in DS3?

4 extra iframes wich isn't worth it for most normal players even less so in pve and bloodhound step is just a better roll if you got an ok sized fp pool

I don't know how valid this is or if I'm even right, I'm no DS player really, but I personally prefer medium rolls. I can chain them together more easily, so dodging attack sequences is easier. The light roll takes a long time to do and caused me to get hit by follow ups more often.

From what im told by people willing to waste time on testing and counting frames the medium and light roll take the same amount of time and cover the same distance but light rolls get their i frames 2 frames faster and last 2 frames longer. You can benefit of those numbers but mostly in pvp in boss fights you're either dodging properly or those 4 frames won't save you so always go for max protection that medium load can get you unless you are doing fashionsouls. As the Invincibility frame advantage can be entirely negated by carrying around a dagger/weapon with blood hound steps ash of war.

So to OP either go max protection that med load can get you if you are having a hard time or wear whatever looks cool if you think you can not die using it

I have been wondering this as well. I am getting decent at rolling dodges, and thinking of going less heavy. I will still focus on the resist of effects, but I avoid a large amount of hits now, from the PvE aspect. PvP, I am awful, but that gives those who I invade some runes. So, I am okay with being bad at PvP.

Damn well I guess 4 frames is decent. I could swear the light roll was a bit faster. It's definitely a little longer, whoever tested the distance got it wrong if people think they cover the same distance. It's a tiny difference but it's there.

Not really worth it, the requirement to go to Light Rolling is pretty rough to begin with, usually unable to use heavy armor or even any medium weapons, unless you expended a lot on Endurance, and i meant a lot.

Most of the time Medium Roll works just fine, and if you want something better, theres Bloodhound or Quickstep.

I think we covered this before... but anyway, look at this.

Edit: just to at least add some more info, you can use Crucible Feather Talisman and Windy Crystal Tear to increase iFrames; I can't tell how much each one adds, but I've used them combined and it's basically DS1's ninja flip, but you will get your ass handed to yourself as soon as a hit connects.

Edit 2: Apparently it both of these add 6 iFrames and don't stack with each other (but damage reduction does) according to some comments on Fextralife.

Why roll when you can put on the heaviest gear imaginable and still Bloodhound Step everywhere?

Seriously though, light rolling isn't worth the loss in armor and heavy rolling is worthless, medium is the only viable choice imo.
